Theres a specific Ibanez show that goes on?
Just Ibanez?
That's pretty cool if that's the case. We should do that here in the States as well. Just Ibanez.

*Is* there an Ibanez only show in the US or Canada?

Of course, it would probably be better for domestic harmony if there isn't.

By the looks of things, I could've spent a lot of money at that show.

Can we/should we attempt this here in the States? Obtaining venue and advertising would be considerations of the biggest importance I figure.

Would we need the legal blessing of Ibanez before we go splashing their name all over the place?

This show is a general Vintage Guitar Show in Veenendaal, Holland. It covers ALL brands, but each show has its own special theme. For instance, one year there was a Swedish brands theme. The show is in March and September.
As you can see the film was made by Robert Boel, the guy with the ZZ-Top beard is Huub Boel, Harry's boss at Bo-El Guitars, a rather young brand, but a good one. I spoke to Marcel Koenen, Dutch hardrock guitar champion, a few months ago, and this former Ibanez endorser switched to Bo-El and he wouldn't have done that if they weren't reliable. (Of course I wanted to know more, after Harry wrote about Marcel's decision, and all I want to say about his answer, is that he was enthusiastic about Bo-El Guitar's constant quality).
The first customer you see next to Hasy is my friend and former colleague Jos (our caretaker) when I was a substitute teacher at his old school. He had this basement room at school with tools and parts etc., where he did all kind of repairs, including guitar repairs. What I had learned, is that the caretaker is the ears and eyes of the school. Without him you're deaf and blind. So I needed him professionally and when he turned out to be a guitar collector too, the pact was there.

Anyway, on these shows you will find lots of guitars from Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, Guild, Martin, Levin, Hagstrom, Framus, Ibanez, Matsumoku/Aria etc. and also some antique acoustics.

So this film is focussed on the collectors who are around Huub Boel's team, but there is more...
I doubt that an event for just one brand would work in the Netherlands. We have as many inhabitants as the city of New York, and that's it. But there are Belgian, German, Swiss and Brittish collectors, dealers and visitors too.

The problem is that you need to get enough of paying dealers, who rent tables. With the rent of these tables (metres) you pay the rent of the hall. With Ibanez only, you won't be able to cover the cost.
I know how difficult this can be, because we organized international shell shows twice now, also a specialism with a rather small community.
Nationally we need the stone collectors to organize a show. We really need the international dealers, if we want a shells only show.
The same goes for a ONE-BRAND-GUITAR SHOW. I wouldn't try it, but I'm talking from a Dutch perspective.

Its pretty much the same here Ginger. You would need table or booth renters to finance it.Plus Harry and Hasy have a lot of Vintage
to add. We would need Dave's collection for a start.

Peter I don't see a problem with Ibanez here in the states remember they use this site to thier advantage to sell reissues!

Ibanezfreak1960 -

Some companies can be a bit testy at times where "branding" is concerned.

Obviously, we wouldn't be doing anything to harm or defame Ibanez or their products but (in theory) a profit will be made by the vendors and thus, we are using the trademarked Ibanez brand name to generate revenue.

That usually causes lawyers to pop up out of their gopher holes and take notice.

Now that I think about it, in Virginia we have what's called a "lawyer referral service".

You call them up, tell them your problem and they will direct you to a lawyer in your part of the state that specializes in your specific problem area.

The best part of this is that the first consultation with the lawyer is only $35.

So, if we were to hold the show in Virginia :-) I'd be happy to cough up the $35 and ask the lawyer whether we need Ibanez's permission or not.

Better safe than sued.

Since we're dreaming, why not just hold it in Pennsylvania, invite Ibanez and maybe they'd set up a booth to give us a little pre-NAMM peek?

The worst they can do is say "no".

Since I'm at it:

Santa Claus - I'd really like a Mustang GT500KR coupe, any year, any color.

Hi all.

Just to slightly correct Ginger: the show was not about "the collectors around Huub Boel´s team".
The Ibanez stand Hasy and I had at the semi-annual Veenendaal Guitar Event in september 2004 (is it really 3 years already? How time flies!) was done purely on our own initiative to promote the upcoming book about vintage Ibanez we were about to launch.
We had about 20 meters display packed with guitars from our own collection as you can see in the footage on Youtube.
Huub (the guy with the Billy Gibbons looks) is my boss, I work for him at the Bo-El guitar company. Great guy who builds great guitars! He dropped by to visit the event and of course our Ibanez stand.
The two Japanese guys you see me talking with were a delegation of the Hoshino company. They were very impressed about the guitars that were distributed by Hoshino at the time they were still in their diapers
About the book: we all know that unfortunately everything went wrong with our first publisher, but this time things are really happening! "The Vintage Ibanez Identification Book (Vol.2 )" is being "constructed" at this very moment by the lay-out man. This will be a few month´job and after that we will take a few month extra to do a thoroughly final correction and some updates. You can imagine that after the first debacle we´re reluctant to give you a definite date of appearance, but 2008 will be a year to look foreward to!

Kind greetz,
Harry

I did NOT write that the SHOW was about your team, Harry. I just wrote that the FILM, which is a "Boel production" was FOCUSSED on HUUB and his team, which is logical, because when we are filming or photographing we tend to document the people who are important to us. Is Robert his son, BTW?

Anyway, it was great to see you all at work in this atmosphere. I haven't been there since the location changed (self-protection against impulse purchases actually and it's quite a drive + last time I went there I got a ticket for speeding in Nijmegen where I picked up the Kasuga Tele Custom '72).

Peter,
Did you private sale that Destroyer on eBay last week. The seller sort of disappeared and didn't respond to my private sale invitation.

No, and what "Destroyer on eBay last week"?

What did I miss?

If it wasn't a Korina or a DT-250/350, I wouldn't have seen it.

I have a seaerch agent set up to catch those and I don't recall seeing anything.

Cleversj -

I *did* buy a pre-serial # Korina Destroyer this past week but I found it on The Gear Page.

I couldn't believe it. The listing had been up for about a week by the time I saw it. I almost didn't even bother because I thought it would have already been sold.

http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t= 262249&highlight=destroyer

Maybe the guy also had it listed on eBay?

I don't even know the seller's last name or where in the US he lives. We did everything online.

According to the FedEx tracking web site, it is supposed to be delivered today.

If you want to compare this guy to your eBay seller, I can find out his last name and where he lives.

Let me know.

Thanks,

- Pete

Pete,
Can't get into Gear Page, ow do you join for access.
The Destroyer was the one that the seller started at 5000 then dropped to 1500 and never got a bid.
I am serious about getting a Destroyer, please let me know if you find a good one that you are not buying.

Go to the main page at:

http://www.thegearpage.net/

Click the link in the middle of the page: Take me to the discussion board!

When the new page loads, you'll see 2 boxes above the forum topics.

In the box that is directly above the forum topics, there is a "register" hyperlink

Follow that to complete the registration process.

They will send you an e-mail containing a link that you will have to click to activate your account.

Once you do that, you should be good to go.

I didn't see the eBay Destroyer that was up for $5000. That must have gone quickly.

Was it a 75-77 Korina or some other flavor?

FedEx brought mine today. It's not perfect but it's nice. A few chips on the backside edges and the pup covers are missing but, other than that? Sweet!

I even got it at a sane price.

What are you looking for, exactly? 75-77 Korina Destroyer?

What condition? Do you want it with the original case or will any hardshell case do? Does it even have to have a case? Is a gigbag OK?

Tell me what you're looking for and I'll keep you posted if I find something (that I'm not interested in).

Yeah...well...all I can say is, "I wish I was walkin' around there with some scissors".

I'd take out a few of those split-ends left over from the early '80s ;
