I didnt want to say anything until I got it in my hands!!!! Especially after the trials Bobzilla went through for his...But the other day, while doing my normal Ibanez daily search on Ebay (5 times per day for 5 years!) a TRUE CLOSET CLASSIC Scruggs popped up on the screen with a Buy it Now of $1299.

I was the 2nd person on the counter and bought it within the first minutes the auction was up! Pure luck!! Anyway, its a 79 Natural finish with case, hang tag, truss wrench, and tuner wrench all there. LITERALLY LIKE NEW!! It has absolutely no wear anywhere on the guitar. The gold is untocuched and the pickups still have some of the plastic protective coverring on them.

The music shop priced it based on a non-vine Professional that was a 9 out of 10 with some changes that sold on Ebay recently. This vine Scruggs is an 11 out of 10!!! This really made my year, especially considerring what a crappy year it had been till now. My son and I stared at it for about an hour after I first took it out of the box. I am not sure if I can ever play though cuz its so clean. It has a fatter neck then any of my other Ibanez's, but still has the killer action, fit and finish. I think the strings were even original.

The owner bought it for her son and per her he never played it and it sat literally "in the closet" for 28 years. Its truly a colector's piece.

Check out how clean the back cover is!!!

And in the picture of the neck pickup, you can see remnants of plastic cover on top edge of neck pickup

Yeah!!! And you wont find that case in that shape...ever...'cept maybe at Daveunderscoreg's house.

Wow Jerry..."Bell of the Ball"...I was admiring that upper-body beautymark ... which really says to me that it came from a tree.

Do play it from time to time!

Jerry:

I just got done downloading all the pictures from the auction and processed them to upload here, because I felt that this was such a spectacular piece (and the price was unbelievable, too). But you beat me to it!

I'm happy for you and glad that it went to an ICW member! This guitar is just awesome.

Jerry, Outstanding deal ! Its great to see one of these in its glory ! I really dig the "bright" ones -before the sunlight and tobacco stains the finish yellow. That one has the ultra cool neck joint too ! ..Could use a slight fret dress-lookin kinda dull.Congrats on an awesome catch !

I am guessing they didnt make them much longer than this one. Its a Jan 79 build. I spent hours and hours reading up here for the last 5 days while I waited for her to ship and only saw examples of the Scruggs dating from the pre-serial number models up thru 78. I couldnt find any 79's like this one.

WOW, WOW,WOW!

I was here at my desk, doing my hourly Ibanez Flea Bay search. I went & took a whiz, refreshed the page, saw it & clicked on it. (I think the auction had only been up like 4 minutes)!I was the 4th person to hit it & it was gone. I nearly vomited.

What a beautiful piece! Congrats friend, I'm happy for you (even though I hate you.....just kidding), and glad it went to an ICW member.

Guess I'd better practice my "Keegles," or get some Depends, so this doesn't happen again, ha ha.

Jerry. CONGRATS x100! We were all wondering who the lucky fellow was. I hope the dudes who think there are no more bargains left to be found on old IBZ's take note of this. Timing is something at least. I saw that auction... after the fact. I would have dove head first onto that one. Let us know how it rips. What's in it? S80's? S70's? I would guess S80's. Correct? I'm real excited for you dude..totally awesome score on a great axe. Best of luck with it. Let us know how it plays.

It has Super 80' plays really well but could use a fret polishing. I believe it hasnt been played more than a few times. The frets are tarnished from sitting. It sounds really good. I know I am not gonna be able to let it just sit, but on the other hand, it wont leave the house ever for gigs or even rehearsals.

Jerry, how's your Scruggs doing? Playing it? I notice it has the pearl tuners. Are pearl tuners stock? I thought they came with the star tuners.

I have to say, that whoever owned this guitar before should be prohibited from buying any Ibanez in the future, because he or she obviously never used it.
I'm careful with my guitars, but those letters on the back panel on my Musician have been gone since fifteen years ago at least. That happens when you play the thing.

I have played it a few hours here and ther over the last month. I have to admit, I almost feel guilty playing it cuz I want it to stay new looking!! This coming from a guy who plays several hours most days of the week. The tuners are stock. The guitar plays beautifully. Sounds nice too!!Neck is really fat on it so feels different than all my other Ibanez guitars.
