My dad just left me his old ibanez 2619. I think its either a 77 or 78 and its in near perfect condition. I was just wondering how much it is probably worth, even though I have no intention of selling it.

It is worth nothing, send it to me

Do you mean as a player or as a collectors item? As a player you judge it yourself or ask a pro to test it. Collectors might pay a thick pile of $'s for a vintage guitar at that condition. You can see how some envy you. Keep it, if you play or if you don't need the money. Browsing eBay and other auction/ad sites gives some kind of idea of the value.

My dad's really not that into electric guitars... he bought it a while ago and barely played it these past 25+ years. He's not sure how much it would be worth.

I'm sorta a beginner at playing... I can play most chords and some runs but not much else. When I asked how much its worth, I meant like if I were to sell it to a collector, but I'm not going to sell it.

I looked around on eBay for a while and found some guitars that are similar, but they are either in poor condition or are slightly a different model.

Thanks

A REALLY nice '79 2619/AR300 sold for around $1,300 earlier this year. If it's in nice condition, I think you could get $1,000, possibly more on eBay. You never know...I've seen others go for less..

Anyway, if you decide to sell, let us know as there are many people, including me, who might be interested.

And what I'm sayin' is, since your NOT going to sell, it's a heart-felt gift...at least, that's the way most of us out here think of these amazing axes.

So, what I'm sayin' is, your Dad could have sold it...instead, he gave it to you.

That's what it's worth...beyond the $buck.

Bballdog,

That is one seriously sweet axe. You should keep it and cherish it even if you don't play, and I don't even collect electrics! :-)

As others have indicated, if you do choose to sell it, put a thread in the for sale section and I guarantee you'll get interest from the folks here.

Best wishes.

The only thing my dad ever gave me was a boot in the arse. Consider yourself fortunate to have a nice guitar like that handed to you by dear old dad.

Do you have any need for a size 11 boot?
I have one.

Bballdog,

You can identify the year by the first two numbers of the serial number on back of the headstock (the first letter designates the month, i.e. A = January and so on).

If your going to continue to expand your guitar playing horizons, you've got one of the finest made and best sounding instruments out there. I bought a '78 2619 a few months ago and paid $1625 for it. I was willing to pay that price (and even a bit higher if necessary) because it was in exceptional condition and I wanted an exceptional playing guitar. Keep it.

Strings is right about the principle behind the gift too, it outweighs the monetary value. Oh, and 'Zilla, I got a boot too! Looking back, it's the best thing he ever did for me (I'm getting ready to deliver the same one to my 18 year old son).

Bballdog, if I gave my son a guitar like that, I'd be seriously offended if he sold it, or if I thought he was even contemplating selling it. It's a connection between you and your father, you should treasure that connection.

thanks all... its aparently a '77 and i really never had any intention of selling it. Im just weird and like to know the monetary value of things, even though it is worth more to me since it was my dads (he really doesnt care too much about it though).

Serves ya' right for asking a bunch of rabid Ibanez collectors. :-)

Nothing wrong with trying to know the value. Just understand that your 2619 is a highly-coveted collectible in these parts. That said, vintage Ibanez guitars are still way under-valued compared to their American counterparts of that era... THat's one of the reasons we love 'em so much.
