I imported a 2619 artist in Australia some time age, but when it arrived it had a badly cracked neck (Both sides). I took it back to Australia post and after months of waiting got my money back on insurance.

I asked them what they would do with it and they said they would auction it off, so I forgot all about it........then a few days ago it appears again on ebay for sale...

With no mention of the cracked neck!!!!!!

I have a moral dilemma...I can't let someone buy that guitar in that condition. I can't find anywhere on ebay to report this sort of thing, and can't be sure if the seller is not aware of this serious fault!!!...does anyone else know how to do this?

Cheers

Steve

Thanks Steve. A thread on this auction was started last week I believe. If the seller is as unscrupulous as you suggest, he is gonna ship, and then when the new owner opens the box to find a buggered neck, he's gonna tell them it must have been done in the post. Hmmm, that's a new one on me.

Thanks for the tip off mate

Probably all you can do with the new "hidden bidder" scenario on ebay is wait til auction end when the winning bidder finally appears on the auction and contact him at that point.
I'd contact him.
You'll be his hero.
At least the buyer could then contact the seller and demand better photos at least... or an explanation.
maybe the stuff will show up in better photos.

So, the insurance company pays the insured value...
to whom?
They should pay that money to YOU, since you are the owner who paid for the guitar.
THEN the INSURANCE COMPANY becomes the rightful owner of the guitar, NOT THE SELLER.

The insurance company may decide what happens with the guitar.

They may sell the carcass, AS A BROKEN CARCASS with valuable vintage parts.

It may be that this guy bought the guitar from a postal auction and doesn't know the extent of the damage himself, so I'd approach it at first from that angle. That gives him an out too, where he can say, "Gosh! I didn't know!" and pull the auction while saving face.

However, I'd definite contact the seller. Contact him and let him know you know the guitar is damaged, and that LOTS of other people know it now too. Give him a chance to pull the auction, but if he won't, let him know you'll notify the winner, etc.

Steve, you can use E-Bay's Ask The Seller A Question function and point out to him what you've told us here. At least other prospective buyers will then be aware of the guitar's history. It *may* be that the neck has been repaired, we'll have to give the seller the benefit of the doubt regarding his knowledge of that.

I can see the crack in the pics. Do you mean there was worse damage? You can see the picture of the headstock damage and also a crack on the body where the neck seats.

There are cracks either side in the body at the neck joint. THe neck has moved up about 1-1.5mm and lifted the fretboard off the top of the body...it's taken a hit somewhere in transit and was packed in a very flimsy and cheap hard case (I was lucky to get my money back). I took it to my guitar tech and said he could repair it at a significant cost, but the value of the guitar would be low with a repaired crack so I didn't persue that

Apparently, the guitar sold. One bid. So... has anyone contacted the bidder?

I contacted the seller a few hours before the auction closed and he seemed genuinely not aware of the extent of the damage to the guitar. I gave him the background of this guitar and he vowed to bring it to the bidder's attention before shipping it. That's where I've left it, I'll have to trust he's done the right thing.

Cheers

Steve
