1979 ST300 Destroyed?

They did a decent job but......what are you guys thoughts? Most of them were finished in NT (natural) finish. I think that this is the way they were meant to look. If they painted over the existing poly paint...it might be easy to remove the black paint. I'm not a big paint guy so my perpective is just an opinion. You might want to try a cotton bud's worth of stripper somewhere unobtrusive and see how easily (or not) it comes off.....otherwise it's easy enough to strip it right back to the wood (without too many marks), but getting a proper NT finish on it may need an expert (or a lot of time and patience on your part...)   Guitarwhisperer Username: Guitarwhisperer Registered: 6-2007 Posted on Friday, September 07, 2007 - 11:15 pm:    I'd be careful with the stripper.(sorry, Chips) Mcguire's medium cut paint cleaner should take the color layer off and expose the clear original finish, which could then be polished out with swirl remover, then pure polish (both Mcguire's car detailing products) for a high gloss lustre. The color coat won't have bonded to the original poly finish, so a stripper should be unneccesary. Ibanez was laying the poly on pretty thick back then, so if you're careful, you won't burn through to the wood.   Chipsotoole Username: Chipsotoole Registered: 2-2004 Posted on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 - 1:04 am:    Fair enough GW...You're probably right...i used nitromorse with great results before as you can get it off before in burns through the poly finish. Better going slowly....
