I beg to differ ofcourse.the biggest turnoff for most people is the weight of the guitar.[and often the expense]I will go out on a limb and say a good portion of the members here would buy a 2670 Artwood Twin Doubleneck [a orignal or the reissue] if they could find one and afford to buy it. I am a songwriter and it's just that certain songs I write only become what they're meant to be with that 12 string sound. I can't do without it so... I love 'em. Jimmy Page don't seem to mind them. Or... Mahivishnu J.M. or... nevermind, a few decent, well-known players seem to have a need for them. I love 'em actually. Nice ones anyways. In any event... there's a certain sound that a 12 string gives off that I don't know of any other way of acheiving without 12 strings. The 2 necks allow you a certain versatility while playing as well, for obvious reasons. I got a bunch of tunes that I need to go back and forth on the necks in order to present them as they are intended to be presented. Nothing would seem to make sense with any guitar unless it suits it's intended purpose. Doublenecks have a purpose, whether or not you need one depends on your objective towards the songs you're playing. If all you do is shred... well then... obviously A DOUBLENECK WOULD BE A WHACKY CHOICE FOR YOU.   Chucke99 Username: Chucke99 Registered: 2-2007 Posted on Friday, September 28, 2007 - 5:24 pm:    Seeing as how guitars are mainly penile extensions, I think you can understand the power and presence a double-neck gives you. Since we know your take on double-necks, there's no need to defend. For me it's not the weight...it's the width. It was just because Jimmy Page n Mclaughlin had one. I went to guitar center tried it on and thought "oh heck no" this is way uncomftrable and heavy. o i ran out hating doublenecks and sticking to single guitars twelve string effects Years Later (about 10)I bought the gibson doub neck. This time around i could care less if jimmy or mclaughlin played one, it was my need to accentuate my songs realisticly without an effect adn the ease of having both on the spot. it opens my mind and feeds ideas. I could be plugged in and have the doubleneck pick up off and the six on but playing on the doubleneck and the sound will seep through on the sixer. Totally sounding phased and dreamy then il switch back forth or leave both on and come up with stuff. I was a hater and now a lover of these beast, so i perfectly understand both sides. It took me about 6 months to be able to run scales at the normal speed im used to. Is john Mclaughlins playing considered Shredding? he tears it up!   Doubleone Username: Doubleone Registered: 10-2003 Posted on Monday, October 01, 2007 - 8:11 pm:    Hello, Hey Strings hope I didn't sound like I was beating a drum for my preference [well maybe...........]anyway as far as to what people can or can't afford that I've never met well........ lets make another case in point, alot of people who are car nuts would love to own a Ferrari,I think its fair to say that car is beyond the reach of most people........even though I haven't ever met them. though thats also a generalization, ditto for some guitars as well. D1
