I have a double neck guitar in my basement that looks just like the new 2670RE. I've had it for about 16 years. I was told it belonged to Gerry Beckly. There's an album of America in the case and I looked at it with a magnifing glass. The woodgrain matches exactly right down to little flaws. Can anybody tell me about this instrument? Why does it say 2470 it looks like the Artwood Twin Neck on Guitar Tours on this site that says 2670. I'd like to sell it but don't know enough about it.

I talked to someone in Vermont that had a 2640 owned by Gerry also. Can you post some pics of it or click on my user name and send them to me please and I'll post them?

OK I only have pics on an old floppy taken by an old camera. I can send those in an email to ibanezfreak1960 for now. It's too heavey for me to lift and bring upstairs to take pics, but one of my sons will be home this weekend and I'll have him carry it up for me.

This would be a real find! Does it have a serial number?

Is there a story behind how it got from Gerry to you?

Where does it say 2470?

Johns, It has no serial #. It says 2470 in the same place that the one on the Guitar Tours part of this web sight has it except that one says 2670. I got it from a guy that owed me. This was the only thing he had of value. I don't know before that.}

On the picture from the America album there is no text on the truss rod covers visible.
I suspect that either the truss rod covers were missing and someone made new ones, OR someone had original truss rod covers engraved with a NONSENSE TEXT.
They are either spoilt or faked.
The 2470 model is a FULL SIZE L-5 JAZZ BOX with a solid spruce top.

I bet this guy carries a tattoo of the wrongly spelled name of his first girlfriend too...
Or "Mother" spelled with double D or something...

my early artwood twin carries the trussrod cover marked 2402-VI you can see it at

http://www.mr-ibanez.com/products_and_services.htm

its interesting to see now three separate markings on the early ones, any more?

Ginger, I think you're a little too skeptical on this one. I think it's more likely the guitar was custom built for Gerry Beckley and the luthiers did a custom job on the truss rod cover as well. It certainly is the same guitar. Just look at the woodgrain pattern between the bridges. If he could get ahold of Gerry and get a letter of authenticity (and maybe get the album signed at the same time) then it would truly be one of a kind.

I got out the Album and a mag-glass and looked and Ginger was right there is nothing visible on that pic, however that is due to the photagrapher. It is there however, and If anyone has that album and is able to take a close-close-close pic, that would be great. I'm a she--(my Dad gave me that nick name) and I've tried many times and ways to get hold of him but to no avail
If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to try again. Thanks--

Jacko,

You've got something "wicked" cool there! Kudos, and thanks for sharing it with us. It's truly a beauty!!

I'll be very interested to hear how this mystery ends up. Orval's collection including the 2402-VI seems to be telling us there are multiple model numbers for the Artwood Twin.

O.K., there are trussrod covers visible. But I'm not so sure they are authentic. That engraving could have been done at Mr. Minit's.
This is a real 2470 should look like:

A few more. This shows the headstock back with no serial number.
Ginger I am not worried about what the TRC says. The grain Pattern says its the same axe. And also I know that Gerry sold off some of his axes a while back because we had another guy on here with a 2640 that was Gerry's that invited me to his home to see it in person. Sadly I did not make the trip. He sold it a year later on ebay.

I just read through many of this sites discussions (posts) This is a neat website. A very passionate bunch of people. Thanks for your thoughts on this puzzle. I think the best thing would be to get hold of Gerry. He would know 2 important things. 1.(If it is truely his). 2. (If it is, why does it have 2470 on it). -- Why would (anyone for that matter) put those #s as opposed to 2670. -- Well, I can speculate till the cows come home. (Riding on a horse with no name). Thanks again IBfreak'60 for posting-- Enjoy.

Jacko like I said before I discussed Gerry's guitars with another person who was selling them. He tried to get documents from him but could'nt. I tried my contact at HoshinoUSA and they had nothing. I do have the name of the person who was handling the sale of Gerrys axes and I believe he works for Taylor guitars. I won't get a chance to dig into my old emails until tonight so hang on and I will get it to you via email when I get home!

Jacko... nice guitar for sure (as you already know.) If you don't mind me asking, and I know I may be out of line by asking... just out of curiosity...How much did the guy owe you that he used this guitar as compensation? Your original post says you'd like to sell it. I'm interested in it if you care to contact me off line. As far as 2670 vs. 2470 truss cover... we can all tell you that Ibanez is kinda known to do stuff like that, little variations here and there for whatever reasons they may have had at the time, I wouldn't let it spin your brain. Looks like the real deal. The 2670 was just re-issued last year by Ibanez. So... there were the originals, which yours seems to be and then last year they made a few more, I think 45 of them, you can find a thread devoted to that re-issue here on ICW. In any event, if you're interested in selling, get in touch. I am sure you'll have more than a few interested parties here.

Bobzilla, I was going to sue this guy and my attorney was talking 10,000.00. I let him know that and we aggreed he would give me something that was valuable and forget it. I don't play guitar but took it anyway. I kept it so long because I hoped one of my sons would play guitar. They played trumpet/piano and the other one played Trombone and does play guitar minimaly, but he is autistic and one of his autistic quirks is that he doesn't like change. (same shoes for 6 years, black teeshirt with a bowtie on it for ALL special occations! the only guitar he will play is his vintage Washburn (flying V). They're both in College and I've got a last minute Toddler in preschool. And am doing this solo, thus the need to sell and clean up the basement to rent it out. -- I was going to put it up on ebay and may still, but after reading through this web sight, I would love the idea of one of you Ibanez history preservationists to have it. I have been made offers, so you are welcome to make one. I'll wait a little while to see if I (or we) can find out anymore about it. (not a whole lot longer, I do need to sell) So I would like to thank all of you for your help.

Bobzilla, If we're Artwood twins, marriage is out of the question. That would be inlay!

The only thing nicer than one of you getting this guitar would be Gerry getting it.
I have contacted the following:
*Matt, Gerry's son--- "cannot help" Thanks for responding anyway Matt.
*sent emails through americacd, venturahighway, burgandyrecords, William Morris Agency, Akiko Roger,(America's manager) - no responce 2days
*Michael, Gerry's brother- forwarded my email to Gerry. 2 days-- no responce from Gerry yet. Thanks Michael.
*emailed many people at KRTH Radio--
***** Very special thanks to KRTH***
Bruce of KRTH, also affiliated with Dial Global's 24/7 Digital format at the Kool Gold format, interviewed Gerry and Dewey a couple of years ago on his morning show. He has contacted the Dial Global's Music Promotions Director, Bob. (I think this is the guy that set up the interview). America is in their area Thurs. & Fri.
Also thank you to Sylvia and Kelley for
responding.

Weird how many designations you can find for these Artwood Twins.

Here's a page from the CSL catalog (the British importers of Ibanez) that shows the 2670, but uses the following terms: "Custom VI", "Twin Custom VI" and "Twin Custom VI - Artwood".

CSLArtwoodCatalogPage

The description further confuses things by stating: "Basically the same details as our 2402 range but only the finest quality of materials and artistic taste have been used..." So, what was a regular model 2402?

Other references are obviously just typos, like this one in the '78 Electric Guitar Price List, that calls it the model 2770:

Oh, cool. Thanks, Orval. That makes a lot of sense. I'm thinking that maybe they changed their marketing strategy. They wanted the original twins to be seen as an extension of the sg twin copies, but then decided to give them their own 2670 designation. Just a guess.

This still doesn't even theorize how Jacko's said 2470. Maybe it's only got 4 cylinders. :-)

I made the shirt up for a guitar show I went to a couple months ago in Seattle. I decided to wear it when I went to Jacko's house to see the twin so she'd know I wasn't a psycho. And to answer Jcmc64's question, holding the guitar felt like I was holding one big- honkin' guitar. I was overwhelmed by the size and all the knobs. I was never an America fan, but it is very cool to know this is THE guitar from that album. If someone would lend me $6,000, I'd buy it from Jacko right now.

Jacko, I can never get back to you via e-mail even though I am hitting the "reply" button on your e-mails. So... Can you call me before 3:30 pm my time in NY today? Do you have another e-mail address I can try for you. I get your e-mails, I just cannot respond.

Hey Chuck,

Just as well you wore that shirt! Otherwise Jacko might have mistaken you for Michael Chiklis from "The Shield" knocking on her door ready to shake her down!!!!!!

Honestly, the likeness is uncanny!!!!!!
