Here in Australia, there is no "reserve price" tick box on ebay so the seller can't put a reserve price in. Also, if you have a start price and a BIN, the BIN dissapears after the first bid. I reckon this policy stinks especially the no reserve policy.

Anywhere else in the world like that?

If there is no reserve, the BIN will disappear once there is any bid at all on the item. If there is a reserve, the BIN will disappear after the BIN is reached. That's the way it is everywhere, I believe.

Yeah thats true but here, you can't set a reserve price at all. Ebay doesn't give you any option for a reserve price whatsoever. So you have to set a realistic starting price or start it a 99c and take a chance. It seems like a recipe for disaster as it probably attracts a lot of shill bids.

Six, you can't set a reserve price?! Do you mean only in the presence of a BIN, or do you mean you can't set a reserve at all?

Six -

There are "extra" options available to sellers when creating a listing that don't show up by default.

You have to drill down to turn them on.

Is it possible the reserve price is one of those?

That would be nice but alas no. I had a conversation yesterday with a local guy here in Melbourne who has listed loads of stuff on ebay. He confirmed that there is no "reserve price" option here on Aussie ebay. "Is sucks" were his exact words. He said a lot of shilling goes on because of it. You would think ebay would have a handle on it by now wouldn't you.

It also still amazes me that we, as buyers and sellers still have to inform ebay when there is a scam going on or when some brain has written up a totally misleading description.... Like this:

Ebay Item #130164433903

Now if that isn't misleading I don't know what is. Luckily, a few savvy ebayers have taken the time to tip others off in the Q&As. Ebay are not policing this kind of scam.

OK, I give.

How could I tell?

Is it because the serial number has a dash (hyphen) in it?

Pete, just look at the condition.. :-) Not from 1959, if not kept in a "time capsule".. The serial is period-correct but there are those "magic numbers" R9 in maybe 2-3 places, in pickup cavity, switch cavity and in the "control room" to indicate a reissue.. The serial 9 4281 deciphers as: 1959 reissue (9) made in year 1994 being 281. such guitar that year. This is, like Six says, a classic example of "making possible profit with as little given info as possible".. Worst case scenario with this kinda auction is two eager but ignorant buyers, who have read that 1959 LP:s are great investments, competing over a reissue. And the seller laughs all the way to bank... :-)

Sorry Pete I was in bed. Fox is totally coming from the same angle as me. It's the same issue with the fake Gibsons from China (that we have covered here already). Some poor soul will bid thinking they are getting the deal of the year.

Criminal.

Hi Zenday,

don't be confused - look at your mailbox!!! My name is Roger Weiler and I'm the owner of this Artwood Twin on Ebay.de - the first and only one!!! I have sent you a picture from a live gig in 1979 with my German Artrock band NEUSCHWANSTEIN. It's all original, nevermore played since 1981 and really good conserved in my home since this time! No China, no replica, no reissue!!! I'm ready for all questions. I only wish, that a real fan gets the guitar! Best regards, Roger Weiler.

Roger:

Thanks for letting the ICW members know about your 2670 on ebay.

Can you send me that picture (and any others that you might have showing the guitar in action) and I'll post them here for all to appreciate.

Hi John, we only played our own music, no covers of Genesis. You can get the CD "Battlement" or mp3 at www.musearecords.com - enter "Neuschwanstein". If you like the music of Genesis in the Gabriel era, be sure to love this album. Thank you for setting the pictures. And thank you, folks, for your interest. I'm glad about the feedback and all the mails from John and Six...

Did anyone notice that Roger's Artwood Twin went for EUR 4,009.00, (approximately US $5,889.62). Not too bad Roger.

Not too bad of an investment, either. The US list price for the 2670 with case was $2150.00. Street price was probably less, though.

I wonder if the winner (sal592) is an ICW member? He's from the Netherlands and has done some deals with other ICW members.
