Alright guys, what is this? Looks like it started out as a Scruggs, and they discovered they were "Fresh outta vines," and put an Artist fingerboard on it.

Pretty guitar though! Love that finish on the ash body.

Dave....Not all the 2671's were made with vined necks. The ones with the vines are the rarer ones. Check out the headstock... it looks a little weird to me but that should be the headstock on a 2671. Complete with pearl tuners. That's obviously not a "standard" Artist headstock/neck. This finish on this one is the rarer brown finish. Too bad this axe has taken a few major hits. Still, at the right price, a great looking guitar to me. A player. I wouldn't mind owning this one... for sure. It's good to have a few axes that you don't worry about every time you take them out of the case. If you search for 2671 photos posted on ICW, you will see vines and sans vines. I like this guitar.

This is a reply I got from the seller after I asked for more photos, which he is going to provide:

Headstock and fretboard are in great shape no dings, no chips or scratches to abalone and pearl, beautiful. Some light scratches on the back and wear to gold plating on the back plates. So you know this is not a bolt on neck. The case is a skb with some wear on outside. This guitar came from a professional who had it serviced and intonated often as it has seen lots of the road. Great shape for the miles it has on it! It plays fast and is quite forgiving, very heavy! There is only one chip in it as you can see from photo on bottom edge and maybe a couple very small dings.

Bob/Chuck...Actually these guitars came in three different models that get increasingly more decorative. The first model has a dot neck, the second has the split block (no binding) and the top of the line has the vines and full binding/abalone..

These guitars (All of the Professional Series including the Scruggs and Weir)were produced in at least three different colors..Natural, Brown and Brown burst.

Dave:

I've seen this block inlay version Scruggs in Cherry Wine, also. It belonged to Maniac Mike and it was a fantastic guitar to behold and play.

John, I think the consensus was that Mikes guitar was a refinish...it was a beautiful guitar-I tried to get it several times from Mike...

I actually started a thread recently about the finishes of the Bob Weir. I believe the finishes are Natural, Antique Violin, and Brown Sunburst.
This link supports this.

This is the Brown Sunburst.

Dave:

I don't remember discussing Mike's maroon guitar being a refin. Can you be more specific about that conclusion? Too bad Mike is AWOL.

Good to hear from you!

I don't remember seeing anything about Mike's guitar that made me question whether it was a refin. I was so impressed with it that I offered to buy it, but no go.

What do you think about this CW 2680 with dots? A refiin or not?

john,
my catalogs dont list the 2680 in cw. its hard to tell if its a refin without disassembly or close inspection of the finish.

the price sheets list a 2617 in cw, wouldnt that be a sight to behold?
