hello everybody ,
i am going to be the proud owner soon of a ar 300 cs brass beauty but now i hear that the third tri sound option besides normal and coil split is paralel instead of reverse ?
whats the difference and what do you guys prefer?

i am going to be the proud owner soon of a ar300 cs brass beauty and 1 of the tri sound options is besides normal and split coil called parallel so this isnt a reverse switching.
what the difference in sound? what do you guys prefer and why do you think did ibanez abandon the reverse switch possibilitty?

greetings ekkermann,

as i understand it, the reversal is commonly known as 'out of phase' and when my pf300' were wired this way it was a nasal sound - somewhat akin to a strat with the neck and bridge together (this also requires a mod that i like but that's another story.) phase reversal is a great way to get your buckers sounding a bit more vocal and bluesy, perhaps a bit more responsive to touch and bending, but it's a question of taste. others would describe this tone as whimpy. i find it works best with enough gain to put a little hair on it - kind of edgey - which is also how i like my strat tone. good luck in your tonequest. cheers!

but what does it do when you compare the two and what sounds better and is of more use?
would it be possible to redirect wires so the paralel option becomes the phase reverse one and is this wise?

Phase reversal cuts out much of the low and high frequency overtones and leaves you with a thinner, quieter nasal tone.

I don't like it - you may.

Parallel is more useable, being a slightly smoother version of single-coil, after all, it *is* effectively two single coils side by side. It also happens to be humbucking, which is useful.

I've got the "classic" trisounds on my Musician, and the top position is the out-of-phase humbucker, and I don't like it. Very tinny. I just had my LP copy wired with trisound pickups and am using the top = single coil, middle = parallel, and bottom = humbucker configuration and I LOVE IT. The parallel sound is fantastic, about halfway between a single coil and a humbucker, to my ear. Very nice clean or run through the effects.

If you search here for "OOP" or "O-O-P", you'll find enough.

I'm not sure I'd go rewiring a Super 58 to try to emulate an OOP that was meant for a Super 80...they changed the p-ups first in 1980...then changed the mode.

the sound of my brass beauty is in normal position a bit bulky a bit big so to speak but when put into paralel mode it is just right for distortion/overdriven tubes and when i turn my tone pot all the way back it becomes a bit like a wah pedal wich is in a downward closed position (not the sqeek) so you get a little quacklike sound a bit like money for nothing meets the tube sound of mister frampton .
hope this makes any sence to you guys...
does to me ...

Yeah...sure...but you won't find Santana living in Parallel ; or in O-O-P for that matter.

So, I take you quest for a re-wire is now null and void...

yep , that quest was before i had me that brass beauty and now i do and heared the sound of her tri sound possibillitty i am very satesfied.
can only agree with fox (i think it was ) that liked the super 58 paralel tri sound over the super 80 reverse phase ones!
b.t.w. i do like the normal pup sound but sometimes the quack rules the heart and ears!
