i just noticed it's described as 'hollow body' in the listing! what's up with that? i'd like to know if it's even a set neck or bolt on, but i can't decide if it's a joke or not... |

I was just referring at the numbers.
Remember the prices Redscuderia asked and got for his guitars?
$1978.- for a 1978 Challenger NT
$1983.- for a 1983 Artist AR... (I think 300),
he's probably our best salesman on board.
Personally I don't connect higher values to just beautiful serial numbers. I'm just interested in the systematic structure of them: what do they tell us about the guitar?
The ones without a serial number tell us... yeah what? Nothing actually: either they're from before August 1975, or they forgot to number the guitar, or the number was filed away because the instrument was stolen...
But when I see the Ibanez logo on the pickup covers my heartbeat goes up too...
And I like that flower pot headstock inlay more than that bug inlay...
But 7 times 7 might bring us some luck.

I know that ornament is kind of kitsch, but I just love that f-mandolin curl (with a flowerpot of course).
Whether I will ever buy a Custom Agent depends on the price and what I can spend at that moment. It is interesting, but not a "must-have". I always keep in mind that "must-haves" don't exist. I must have a good classical guitar (non cutaway + a cutaway with pre-amp, a good flattop steelstring (if I may keep only one, it must be with pre-amp), a good electric and a good bass with a not to long neck, a good mandolin, an electric mandolin, a good mandola, a good octave mandolin, a good ukelele. So if really necessary, I could perhaps sell 40 instruments without suffering a real musical loss.
But I have noticed over the years how fast cash runs through my fingers, and how high inflation actually is, and how low the interests.
I think my collection is my best bank.
Dave, what's your opinion on that, being the Sultan of ICW?

Ginger, all I can say is that collectables , including vintage guitars, is one of the best hedges against inflation next to real estate. The problem I have is that it is very difficult to let any of them go...... |

I have the same problem. They are far more beautiful than Euros, which are disgusting ugly compared to the 1990s designs of our Dutch guilders. We had collectible 10-1000 guilder bills. What we have now is bad printed rubbish, printed all over Europe by bad printers. All uniformity is gone. These bills would have been destroyed at Johan Enschede's in Holland, they are really that bad.
Anyway, being able to spend money is a nice feeling but money in its form is not a desirable object. It takes less storage room, that's a fact.

It's a very old ad from August. Lieven vd Vondel bid €900.- then. But in the mean time he found one so... that's one bidder less.
But Paul, I thought the one he bought in Eindhoven had been yours. Or was Robbie advertising from several locations? I know he tried to get €1600.- through eBay without success, asked €1250.- in his shop and sold to Lieven for less then €1000.-
Are we talking 1, 2 or 3 guitars here?
Let's say it's one and the same guitar...haha...
If you would calculate the fuel the transport of this guitar would have cost already it wouldn't get any cheaper, would it?
Anyway, €1600.- is way too much.

So that means Lieven is bidding €900.- on his own guitar... on the 29th of August, but he bought the guitar from Robbie for less than €1000.- in October.
That doesn't make sense. How could the guitar have been for sale in Belgium in August, when it was standing in Eindhoven in October?
They should have given this thing a serial number...
It seems to have free European transport already, it travels like Prince Friso's delivery service, when he was a student.
