There's no way to screw those things open, that's a problem. If you mean those brown plastic elements, that is. Mine were microphonic as well.

I guess you could re-pot them if you have wax potted super 80's. If they're epoxy, I think you're sol.

So - on a somewhat-related note:

Can a wax-potted Super 80 be opened up so it can be converted from a 3-wire to a 4-wire pickup? How difficult would this be? What are the risks? Can anyone recommend someone who can do this (I'm near New York).

I don't see why it couldn't. As far as I know, epoxy potting is the only reason you wouldn't be able to.

Some are epoxy. I actually have one of each on my AR. The epoxy is a darker color, where the wax is white.
