I own a 1978 Ibanez model 2635 and when I was doing some work getting it ready for sale I noticed that the pickups have the layout and PAF label on the back identical to Gibson's of the 1950's.
I know Ibanez produced a Super 58 that is refered to as a PAF style, but did they go as far as imitating it right down to the label on the back??
Any first hand knowledge or ideas?

If you send me some good close up shots of your PAF's I will be able to give you a yes or no to them being oldies. Are the covers off?

The 2635 has flying finger pickups.

Andreas.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the responses so far.
SixvSix: Here's the image of the back of the pickup and one of the guitar:

The covers are soldered on and they're a chrome finish as you can see (I hope - first time trying to put up pictures here).

Andreas: I know the Super 80's are listed as the original equipment for these because I have a dealer brochure from the era but it's in black and white and impossible to tell if it's pictured with flying fingers. Are you sure that they all were put out with the flying fingers covers on them?
I must say that the chrome covers on these certainly don't go along with all the rest of the gold hardware but it does look right for a Jazz box.

Thanks again and let me know what you think.
Mark

OOOOPS!
I think I've figured out my own quandry. Didn't realize that Gibson put out re-issue PAF's with stickers and all - What schmuks!
Previous owner must have switched them out.

Anywho... I'm listing it for sale in the classified section if anyone looking is interested.

Here's a Photo:

Definately not old PAF's. No need to look under the cover either. If they are chrome covers that didn't come in until 1965. Probably reissues like you have suggested.
