I know, I know, its small now. I have sold off my Musician guitars, and vintage acoustics. Like I have previously posted, I am looking for a 600 series ragtime for sale and an player condition GB-10.ibanezgroup

Cmangeot:

600 series Ragtimes are pretty scarce. I'd love to see you get one and then let us all appreciate it, via pictures.

Player condition GB10s shouldn't be too hard to find. Beware of the tortoise shell pickguards that deteriorate and eat away at all the metal parts. That's happened to mine, but I got a new pickguard and pups. Thanks to the popularity of this guitar you can still get new parts from Ibanez.

Nice SCs. How does the SC620 compare with the SC1620? I have an SC420, which I love - a real unsung hero, and a great bargain because of it. I've thought of upgrading, but I really dig the maroon paint and faux binding. Very classy.

Hey Funkle,

Love the SC's!!! The 1620 has a figured maple top as opposed to the 620's flamed maple. Both have mahogany backs but the 620 is heavier. The 1620's neck has a much better "broken in" feel with less clear coat. I use the 1620 as my main, and my 620 as backup, it has slightly higher action for slide work.
These guitars ARE the most unsung and most versatile Ibanez guitar that I have ever played.

Captain,

Thank you for the very kind compliments! I cannot believe that Australia received so few of these guitars, what a shame. I will post a close up of the two later so you can get a better look.

I like this guitar from the oval inlays to the rounded off pup surrounds and the old style tail piece/bridge. When did these come out?

The sc620 appeared in 1997, and stopped in 1999, and the sc1620 appeared in 1999. The 1620 was the headlining guitar in the 2000 catalog. Try to find one the guitar is amazing from lespaul to strat to tele to jazz box all on the same little 5-way switch. Here is the pickup diagram.

I've been looking for one of these for a while now..

But I would settle for decent condition SC420..

But if anyone sees a SC620 (Myabe even a 1620) around let me know..

Steve,

The SC is based on the S series body style, but it has a fuller 25" scale angled neck, The vol & tone controls mount from the front - It does not have the typical control cavity rout. This combined with the fixed bridge and slightly deeper body results in great tone and sustain. Very articulate and rich, almost like an AR. Way lighter and more comfortable. The earlier ones have V1 & V2 pickups - my favorite.

I love my SC420.

I play everything! Really the main band that I play in does top 40 covers, I know, a cover band, but in Cincinnati it is the only way to make money playing guitar. I use it to play for my own pleasure in the genres of jazz, country, blues, rock, metal, etc. I began when I was six as a fan of RUSH and other prog bands, and have evolved from a shredder to a chicken picker to a jazzer and back again. I love all forms of music.

I'm still in search of a SC620 or SC1620, but I still really like my SC420. I did a little PU experimenting over the weekend. I pulled the V2 bridge and dropped in a SD Custom Custom. The V2, which I like in my SV and AR guitars, sounded too bright and ice pickey for my tastes. The Custom Custom is a wonderful change. It is really warm and rich. A compressed sound with a high-mid vocal emphasis. It has a classic rock LP sound, only a lot tighter and more articulate. It's powerful sounding, but has this sort of laid back quality to it which I like.
