Hi, I would like to thank Captain Ibanez for his time and knowledge. Thought that I would

put some decent photographs up before she goes to Ebay. A little history, I bought this

guitar new in late 1981 from Landis Music in Park St, Sydney. I played it in a band for a

while, but the band broke up, unable to to find another band and with pressing studies, I

put the guitar carefully away in storage. I started to play again about two years ago and

have since had the guitar serviced and set up by Jeff Mallia. The guitar itself is in very

good condition, with only one small knock on the top rear edge. All electricals are in first

class condition and silent in operation. (The guitar was stored without the battery

installed.) The only issue that I can see is there is a little staining on the binging in

places and the ring between the pickup selector nut and body disintegrated. It has the

original Truss Rod Key and battery tester.

See as I said gang, this is a great addition, to anyones collection and for a guitar that wasn't bought and put under the bed from day one, it's immaculate for a work horse of 5 years.Dave has the religion when it comes to your Ibanez, use it, but don't abuse it...there's ya sign !

To find a workhorse, thats in this good a condition, you won't buy better, with the minor acceptions of small amount of missing gold on the bridge...as they all have ! Ya Cappy rates this one a 9.8 out of 10.

Let ya O'l Cappy tell ya a bit about Harry Landis Music. It was located in Park St in the CBD of Sydney just up from George St. Sadly this mega centre...when I say this ..It was a largish music store for it's time...late 60's 70's and 80's compared to say Guitar Centre in the USA, but nowhere as big as what my friends across the pond find the normal for everday guitar shopping etc

The Cappy's favourite haunt in the 70's to go and look at and I mean the full range of all Ibanez guitars available in Australia at the time, and this was where I used to get to see what was hot and get them into the store I worked in back them...as ya do why travel to the city when you can get it in the "Burbs", which is where I began to cut a swaithing path which is yours truly today, and where the philosophy remains today as I made it back then...if I haven't got it..I'll get it for you :-)
What was cool about Harry Landis Music was that the shop had upstairs for drums keyboards etc but street level was a split level design, where towards the back of the store on the left hand side...yes I still remember that ! Was the ceiling to floor utopiean glass cabinet that housed the "holy grail" of all those Ibanez guitars..law suites, Musicians , Studios, Concerts, Artwood twins,Artists, a full set of Steve Miller Icemans, ohhhh it went on and on
But they used to have Fender, Gibson, Rickenbacker etc as well...but I only wanted the contents of the left hand side of the shop..hehe
Sadly today this icon of testosterone rock and roll has been replaced by a F$%k'n Mcdonalds

Like the ANZAC ledgend says:
They shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old, age shall not weary them nor the years condem, but at the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them..lest we forget !

Gone forever..well maybe, but I will never forget those hard trodden inroad days of rock n roll retail back then
Captain Ibanez :-)

Somebody sent me an email saying that saying that the AR500 did not have a rosewood veneer on the headstock, this guitar definitely has a rosewood veneer on the headstock. Does this make any difference?

Boymambo:

The '81 AR500 did come with rosewood veneered headstock. (I believe we've already debated this issue, sometime ago.) Check this page out:

http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1981/p05.jpg

It's small, but you can see the variation in the headstock color on the AR500.

Ahh Cameron,,

Harry Landis music.. when My dad First Arrived in Australia He bought his main drumkit (for 20 years) from Harry Landis Music.. A 1971 Premier kit which I still have and Faithfully restore back to its glory about 10 years ago from years of abuse on the road..

I remember being young and my dad taking me into the city around 1980 and visiting Landis music and also behind the Queen Victoria Building going to Palings and spending the day in the city.. But alas both are now gone Palings being replaced by a bookstore and Landis as Cameron said by a F$%&^ng McDonalds what a pity ... Probably the worst thing to ever come out of the USA!!

I remember Palings and Landis very well, but do you remember Guitar City, mainly acoustics, it was on the fifth floor of the building in George St with Soup Plus in it. Was run by this terribly nice chap and his wife Elie.

Yeh, i remember that music shop. I was a drummer back then. Come to think of it, there was a music shop down the road from my dad's place in Burwood. I think that was Harry's shop when he moved from the city. Is my recollection correct?

Hi, sorry have not done any postings regards this guitar. I have done a bit of soul searching and have decided to keep it. I took it to the studio and used it again in a recording for a friend and it is such an enjoyable instrument.
