Replacing pickups on '78 Musician

My Musician has Super 88's, and I can't stand their tone except when maybe playing some clean jazz. I want to put some Duncans in there, but the Super 88's and their holes are slightly larger and differntly shaped. I did see a Musician in a pawn shop once with standard sized Humbuckers, but didn't have a chance to check it out in detail. I think the best way would be to make Your own pickup surroundings from mahogany, rosewood, or walnut. Make the inner measures suitable for a regular humbucker, and just make the outer measures wide enough to cover the hole. You should try to find places for the screws so that they will go from the surrounding to the bottom of the pickup hole, so You wouldn't have to drill the guitar surface. (This was hard to describe with my english..) In that way You would be able to make it original again without any showing marks on the guitar. Anyway, I'm surpriced if You like the guitar but not the pickups. -Aki.
