Author Message   Eadams Username: Eadams Registered: 01-2005 Posted on Monday, June 06, 2005 - 2:22 pm:    I am now the proud owner of my first vintage Ibanez, a '77 Artist 2710. I'll take some pictures soon and post them up here at some point. I have some questions about the guitar. First, what kind of pickups are these? They are all black musician style pu's with no pole pieces showing. Second, did they make more than one variety of pickup for these guitars? (Musicians or AR 2700/2710). I have seen ones that look different, some with pole pieces, or some that are brownish. If they do have different varieties what are the differences? Lastly, does anyone know how many of these were made? Those style pickups are either super 77 (visible poles) or super 88. I think most Artist customs were equipped with super 88s. They were based on the super 70 and super 80 pickups, respectively. I don't know about the build numbers, but I can tell you that they are desirable guitars for those of us that like the Artist and Musician series, especially if it is a color other than the DS (Dark Brown Stain). What is the difference between the super 88's and the super 77's other than the visible pole pieces? I'm also curious about the tri-sound switches. Is it Series/Coil-Cut/Phase? or is it Series/Paralell/Phase? Or, am I just completely off? I read your post about the broken tuner. I wish I could be of some help, I hate to hear of an injured instrument but unfortunately the only set I have is on the headstock of my guitar. Parts seem to be rare and expensive for these guitars. Probably the only downside though. I'm still trying to track down a NOS Gibraltar bridge for mine, somewhere down the road it was replaced with an after-market Tune-o-Matic. If anyone out there has one by the way please let me know. I can't say I know of a fretted, stringed instrument that could do anything but run for the hills when faced with that. Wow! Also, how would you rate the 3-band eq of the 2700 vs the pickup-specific design of the 2710?
