Old catalogue shots that I've seen of Artist models show a rubber (plastic?) seating disc underneath the selector switch. My recently acquired AR100 ('81 model) does not have one, and the knurled nut sits at an awkward angle on the face of the guitar with a huge gap under one side due to the carve of the top. I've since seen photos of other used Artists where the disc is missing, yet the nut appears to be 'flat' on the surface of the guitar - strange!

So my question is, were all Artists (specifically my '81 AR100) shipped with this disc? If so, presumably they tend to split and mine has been removed? Altrnatively, if some guitars were shipped WITHOUT the disc, then presumably they used some sort of packing piece or angled washer in the switch cavity to angle the switch, making it sit flush with the top? Thanks.

Growler,

I think all artists have that rubber gasket under the toggle switch..it compensates for the carve top and allows the switch to seat better.

The rubber (?) tends to dry out and crack, especially if any wax or laquer has been applied to the guitar/switch. Replacements are pretty hard to find..

Maybe reshaping a solid rubber gromet from a hardware store (QE=shop) would do.

"Maybe reshaping a solid rubber gromet from a hardware store (QE=shop) would do. "

It's a good thought, but I guess in the US your hardware shops (stores!) would be much better stocked that ours. If you walked into a shop in the UK and asked about a large white rubber washer, you'd probably get a glazed expression fired back at you - or maybe that's more an indictment of how much better store assistants are in the US - probably. I just doubt that I could find a suitable washer for modding, but I will look. But anyway, by the very nature that I'm so pickety that I want to fit this missing washer, I want it to be the real thing.

Does anyone have a photo of this rubber washer off the guitar; I wondered what its naked form is actually like. Thanks.
