If I didn't have my tobacco finish '79, I'd seriously consider this one.

Has zero issues that I can see. Mine does have the tulp pearoid tuner buttons, however (which I prefer)

Went for $1625 !

Seems kinda high....I guess the days of Ibanez 70's classics being undervalued are coming to an end.

Emckenrick:

I'd have to agree with you. But this was an outstanding example, too.

Looks like the winner took Bob's advice and didn't tip his winning hand until the final minute.

These prices are all relative. What I mean is... compared to "what" is the $1625 under consideration? If you compare this 2619 to (new) axes that sell for apprx. $1625 on a regular basis... then the $1625 for this 2619 becomes a good buy. With all aspects of the guitar taken into account... the $1625 is definitely worth it (IMHO.) I base this on the fact that whoever buys it intends to keep it, as opposed to a "flip." If you spent $1625 on this axe because you were looking for a great axe, for all the right reasons, then the $1625 is pretty good. For the same amount, an ar500 would be nice, although they (ar500's)can be brought in for less and sometimes more than $1625 as well. It's all relative. What else goes for $1625 these days? A decent LP? Yes. I'd rather have this 2619.

First time poster here, and proud winner of a very nice 2619! I was going to wait until I actually gto it and had it photographed, but as I see throughout the forum regarding new acquisition (and am experiencing myself now), there's just something overly exciting about grabbing one of these vintage pieces of art. It's ironic that almost two years ago to the date, I picked up an '81 AR1200 on eBay with a winning bid of... $1625, no kidding.

I love the tone of that backbreaker so much compared to any of my other guitars (including what used to be my main prize, a custom ESP that came at an outrageous undisclosed price!) that I just had to find a more manageable version. Lots of reading through this forum helped me dial in on what to go after. Lots of great stuff and members in here (I've popped in to browse from time to time over the last couple years), and tons of info including Bob's thread on eBay bidding. It's a good thing I didn't read that thread about a month ago, cause I think I'm going to be happier with the 2619 than the AR500 that I blew (referred to in the forum as a textbook example of how not to bid... agreed and lesson well learned!).

Anyway, here's a photo of the AR1200 that the new addition will take place next to.

ar1200

Thanks again for all the great info and discussion that gets posted in here! Hopefully I'll be able to contribute sometime, because like alot of you, I'm thinking this is probably not going to be the last one!

Yeah nice ar1200 Dude. What year is it? Mine's an '83 and I paid.... $1,050 w/the case. There's one on Ebay right now for $2400 (and these are actually worth that amount.) Both necks totally kick butt. An ar1200 is an EXCEPTIONAL axe. Nice 2619 too. Congrats.

Did AR-1200s ever come in a natural finish?

I've never seen one but.... maybe? Or... maybe they just saved that for the Twins. CS Would be pretty rad on an ar1200. That would be something to see!

Bob,

It's an '81 and you're right, both necks are great and it is exceptional! This one has one tiny dimple in the finish on the front that you can't even notice unless you're up real close, and a few buckle scratches. I was quite surprised that the hardware wasn't pitted at all, and virtually no wear on the plating, a bargain for what I paid and the condition it was in.

I've only seen an AR1200 in one other color, Black, and that was played by Rik Emmett of Triumph (my guess is that it was a custom job, I know he had Yamaha doing some custom SBGs for him in the early 80's).

I talked with the seller on the 2619 today and he just made the waiting all the worse by telling me how nice it was. I'll post up when it hits the door!

Hate to say it 2112, but you new girlfriend's ass looks fat in pictures...; Gawd that axe looks more like the 80's thickness than the 26XX series of the late seventies - but certainly all the earmarks are right. I wonder if the pics were squashed a bit in a photo editor.

Anyway, before $illa tries to figure out your net worth through the guits you own (yes, you've been poked Bob...again;), I think you can be psyched about whats haunting you in your gut...that excitement...worth every damn cent!

The final thing I noticed on the ad was that the p-up selector grommet actually had some shine to it...she looks real good.

Welcome!

Yeah, I thought the body looked a bit thick, but if you look at the photo showing the jack plate, there's not enough wood top and bottom of it for it to be a AR300

The Artist doubleneck came in a Cherry Wine, too. Very rare. Check it out here:

So, 2112, did it arrive? Hopefully you're just gape-mouthed instead of on the floor in cardiac arrest. Ultimately, we like happy endings 'round here...please do show&tell when you find the moment

Gape-mouthed indeed! It came today, got a bit of a cleaning and a thorough playing (about the last four hours). What a tone monster. I thought the AR1200 sounded great, but the 2619 just sings... sustain for days... I am extremely happy. If I only knew then what I know now, I'd have a few more guitars like this and a few less pseudo-strat custom jobs.

I took a few quick shots to post up. The guitar is in really great shape. It's got a small spot on the butt end where the laquer is cracked, but for a '78 I'm guessing that's pretty minor. Other than that it's a real nice looking axe.

I did notice a couple of things... the binding isn't yellowed in blotches like my 1200, in fact no yellowing at all on the 2619. The finish is a bit lighter in color too. The seller referred to it as a "rare" Tobacco Sunburst. All I've seen reference to in any of the '78 catalogs is AV. I just figured it was different terminology for AV. More than likely the lighter finish is the difference in applying a stain to maple in comparrison to ash. Of course, please correct me if I'm wrong, cause I've seen other references to the tobacco sunburst color on the forum here. If the finish is "rare" then that's a plus (but I don't really care, it plays like butter and sounds great!).

2619a
2619b

I'll try to get some better shots once I get settled back down. I'm still a bit overwhelmed at how it sounds and plays! Absolutely worth every penny, and yes... real pretty!

Rockon: how much noise do you get when using the single coil or out-of-phase settings on the tri-sounds?

tnx,
mk

2112,

AV does = "rare" TS...and better too!

Not to burst anything, but it is the most common finish of that era...I guess they wanted to spread the 'good thing' around...

...but 4-digit Artists are anything but common-guitars ;

Congrats...you'll put it down smokin' time after time and just shake your head in amazement...it's a smile that makes me feel child-ish!

mk,

I guess I need to know what kind of noise you're talking about first. The changes between the different settings don't seem to produce any noise or hum, and seem pretty smooth (although the out-of-phase setting is a bit too thin for my liking, and I don't like to play around with tone knobs too much when I play). I messed around with all the different configurations (whew!) too. If your asking because you've got some irritating noise issues let me know, I might be able to help. I'm surely not an expert, but I spent alot of time and learned alot about finding and eliminating troubling sources of noise when I built my studio a couple years ago (some you would never think of, most of which weren't originating from my guitar and amp setup).

Strings,

Thanks for clarifying the finish question, I kinda figured that was the case. Your right about the smoke and the smile (followed by some childish laughter as well!). I've played it twice now and it just puts my Jackson and ESP to shame. What a rush... and I haven't even turned the amp up to 11 yet!

One of the prettiest guitars ever made is that 2619.....I'm always inspired when I pass by mine to pick it up and play. (it doesn't spend too much time in the case)
The neck and fingerboard are just magic together.

Beautiful, Reckon
(I guess I can tell you now that I drove the bid price up to $1600......sorry)

E,

That's what e-Bay's all about. Candidly, I would have gone as high as 2K to get it, it was all about getting a real player. No case time for this axe.

It's funny, I was showing it to a guy who has a "vintage amp and guitar shop" here in Seattle, and he just about soiled his droors when I told him what I paid and what these guitars were going for. That's because he dumped two of them out of his lineup for around $600 each a couple years ago .
