I wish I had a 1981 AS200 to compare... I also like the AS200 very much but the feel/neck of the AS100 has something more to it... I can imagine how an early AS200 plays like... at the end the difference between AS100 and 200 are (as far as I know): chrome hardware x gold hardware, rosewood fingerboard x ebony fingerboard, maple top x flamed maple top, some bindings and the inlays on the fingerboard... The AS200 is a little bit heavier and has Tri-sound. Otherwise, they are nearly identical. All hardwares are the same, including the bridge, except of course one is chrome and one is gold tone. May be because it was lighter, or may be the rosewood finger board had a "softer" touch? The AS200's ebony board gave better "attack" compare to the AS100 though. I might be wrong but I have an impression that the AS200 has a shorter/thinner neck... is that possible? The '86 AS200 has a smaller body... It is to this day my favorite guitar, ahead of my AM205/255, FA and FG, Strat, LP and AR's. It just has the perfect heft, the feel, the tone, everything. Ace
