I am the proud owner of F0520913. I received it on October 14th and used it at a gig that night. I purchased it as a fan of the Grateful Dead and specifically Bob Weir. I love his sound from the mid 70's to early 80's. I was looking into getting a new guitar, and when I first heard of these becoming available, it became a mission. I am not a guitar collector. I am a player, and I went for it.
I play in a classic rock band that gigs 3 to 4 times a month. This guitar has the versatility to provide a variety of useful tones to cover a wide spectrum of classic rock.
However, I also get together with some friends once or twice a month to jam in the Grateful Dead style (which I prefer to classic rock). This is where the guitar exceeded my expectations. It nails the tones I was looking for right out of the box. The single coil tones have the "sizzle" my Musician seems to lack. I love it.
And, as my wife says, "It sure is pretty." The only drawback that I have had so far is that after gigging twice and playing it everyday for the first 3 weeks that I have owned it, Bobby's signature has faded away. On one hand, it doesn't really matter to me that much since I will NEVER sell it, but it was cool having it on there when I got it. I wish they used permanent marker.

Lenny:

Your story sounds just like mine, however, I don't own a Cowboy. I've wanted once since the late 70's...

First thing I did was to make a plastic replacement cover for the Cowboy, I thought that Weir signature might rub off.

Orval,
I would be interested in hearing your opinion about the different feel that this guitar has regarding the picking hand. Maybe its the pickup lay out and the different style bridge that i'm referring to, but to me it felt similar to a Thick stratacaster with an Artist neck.
I'm glad you finally got it! all the best
