Well, the resurrection of the Bob Weir Model 1 Brown Sunburst (BWM1BS) was a success!

Now, it's time to put our thinking caps on and come up with suggestions for the next really special guitar for Ibanez to reissue/reintroduce. Keep in mind the following traits:

Unique/Rare
Limited production run
High price tag

So, what "dream" guitar would you like to get your hands on?

Your probably right. I sure do miss that guitar now that I'm older and supposedly wiser.Does anyone know if these show up from time to time and if so what the going rate for purchase runs. I certainly would like to replace it if possible.

AR5000 with ALL of the mini-toggle switches, abalone binding, bells and whistles! And yes, vines would be cool too. Make it so freakin' fancy and desireable that Gibson execs. would pee in their collective pants.

I think maybe leave the AR5000's and Artwoods as they are and continue with the theme of reissueing a musicians guitar.
Perhaps a Steve Miller, Paul Stanley (mirror guitar), or how about a Yashiro Suzuki.

This is the one I'd like to own...http://arworld.poke1.jp/catalogues/1983_04/83_0304.jpg

It was also made in a 12 string, but not released.

What's a Yashiro Suzuki look like?

What makes the AR550 different from an AR500? BTW, here's another page with better pictures of both color AR550s:

John,

I'm just suggesting that a re-issue should perhaps reflect another musician, Suzuki was well known for promoting the AR500 and AR550, same as Steve Miller promoted the 2622.

I don't think there is much difference with the AR550 except the LED light. Someone correct me if i'm wrong, I'm not good at japanese.

With Ibanez being Japanese, I think it would make a great reissue.

I wish they would bring out a really spiffy GB100 (or GB12) in natural finish. A GB200 in Natural finish and a GB2k in Natural finish...

I would shell out the big bucks for the Gb2k for sure... What a gorgeous axe... I have a video of GB playing a GB12 in natural finish and man does it look/sound good...

You're right. Here's the control layout:

2Vol/1EQ Gain/1toggle SW/1EQ ON-OFF SW/1Duo Sound SW/1 LED/3 EQ (Trble-Middle-Bass)

So besides being just one mini-toggle, it's a Duo Sound, not a Tri-Sound

How 'bout the Turbot? Just kidding.

I would have to say the Custom Agent. I'm not really into this model, but it seems like the obvious choice to me. A fancier version with real inlay as Falcon said.

I have a couple questions for you guys on my new Cowboy. The bridge looks like it was originally intended to have the strings pass thru, as opposed to go thru the body like a hard tail strat. I'm trying it the not thru th ebody way and it works fine.

Another question ont eh Cowboy EQ system. How do you think Weir used it? You can set it up almost like an overdrive an dswitch it in or out, you can use it to just refine the sound that last little bit, I notice when pushed past the mid point detent, the EQ knob will begin boosting. There must be some intentional approach??

Some model of the Musician series, and make it a neck through like the originals. Aria released a RS850 a few years back that was a bolt neck guitar unlike the neck through originals, which kind of missed the point.

Johns~Is there any chance our dream list can get to Ibanez people?

Somehow out of the blue in 2005, the Cowboy Guitar went into limited production. It would be great to see something really special for 2006.

NAMM anyone?

Tim:

Yes, the list is seen by Ibanez.

Are you saying that the Cowboy was not a "really special" guitar? I think it was a stroke of genius, really.

I can't think of any other guitar that was as mysterious and elusive. To resurrect a non-production model, that happened to be associated with a player in a legendary, yet defunct band like the Dead, is a set of circumstances I don't see being replicated.

Who else could drive sales like Weir? Granted, we're only talking about 30 guitars. But they sold for record bucks. Probably sold to the public for $4-5k range. Benson has the name draw, but there are nearly a dozen models with his name on them and some are current models. Besides, how much more special can you get than the GB12?

How about a special Pat Metheny or John Scofield model? Wouldn't be a resurrection or reissue, nor aimed directly at the collectors market. But there would be name draw.

After that we have the rarer models that have been listed above. Who's associated with the AR5000, the AS400, the 2672, 2674, 2675 or 2676? Nobody, really. Would you line up to pay $4-5k for a reissue?

I still haven't seen any suggestion that competes with the Cowboy, IMHO.

If everything goes as planned, I should be at NAMM on Fri. and Sat.

Johns, I was not diminishing the Cowboy at all. In fact I mentioned it specifically because of it being one of the coolest guitars Ibanez has come out with in years. Yes, I agree with you that it was a stroke of genius. So [Ibanez] why not continue to produce limited production, high end, specialty guitars each year? It does not matter to me if the instrument is associated with a particular artist or not.

That was my point.

John, I believe Tim was speaking to an addendum to the Cowboy indicating that it indeed was special...Now, how a bout an encore? At least, that's the way I read it.

Anyway, what are the differences between the 2622EQ and the 2623EQ you mention here? If none, I'd rather see the '79 AR500 instead of the 2622EQ as it has everything and more.

Tim:

Sorry, I misunderstood the intent of your message. I'm glad that so many appreciated the Cowboy. I wish that it was more affordable, tho. But, you can't have everything.

The 2623EQ is an natural finish, ash version of the 2622EQ. I know that Steve Miller played the Iceman first, then the 2622. I was recently surprised to see a booklet that showed Steve Miller on stage with a 2623.

If they reissue any model, why skimp on anything? Know what I mean? A reissue should not automatically denote an inferior redesign. Why now make it exact to original specs or even an improvement over the original. Cutting corners to save costs is not an enticement to buy a reissue (to me anyway). If you're gonna do something, do it right. Why reissue an ar500 with less quality than the original? To save production costs? I think Ibanez would do better in the end financially for themselves if they'd reissue without skimping. I myself would pay more for a quality piece than I would for a sub-par reissue. And... to be clear... I am not saying that they've issued any sub-par stuff. But I feel comfortable saying they HAVE reissued and skimped a bit here and there. Reissue the ar500 please. EXACT to orignal specs.

'Zilla, why did you say "Why reissue an ar500 with less quality than the original?" Who was suggesting that? Or, are you refereing to the last AR 500 made (i.e. - with push pull pots and no EQ.)?

Otherwise, if your comment was per my post, the only reason I mention the '79 AR500 is that, a.) there weren't too many made and, b) it added (IMO) the desperatly needed Master Tone (and Trisounds to boot!)...otherwise, they are identical except for a slightly different headstock inlay.

If the later (80-84? w/Super 58s and stout-er body) AR500 type were to be recreated, then I'd have to vote for the AR5000...How heavy would she be Fox?
