Hi everyone,

I've just got my hands on my first vintage Ibanez. It's a set-necked Les Paul copy - from what I can gather from reading the messages in this forum, its a model 2386.

The output of the neck pickup was kinda weak, so I decided to take it out to check the wiring. When I took it out, I saw that there was a metal bar taped to the back plate of the pickup.

I had never seen this on a pickup before, so I took a look at the bridge pickup. Same thing.

The bar looks like a magnetic bar, so I was wondering - is this part of the pickup design?

Or was it something a previous owner had added to the pickup?

If anyone knows what these bars are and could let me know, that would be great.

Take those bars off, reconnect the pups, see what it sound like ay?

Are you certain they are originals? I have seen some cheap chineese pups that are made that way with the magnetic bars underneath.
