New Vine Inlay?

Like.... a 2622 with a vine.... ar1200av with a vine, mc500nt with a vine? At least if Ibanez themselves did it and it is the actual vine inlay they use/used, I guess it's a bit more legit than other scenarios.   Johns Username: Johns Registered: 02-2001 Posted on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 - 10:08 pm:    Bob: If you were an endorsee, I'd say you'd have a pretty good shot at it. If not, you'd have a much better shot at getting a custom inlay job from any number of inlay craftsman. To go from blocks to vine, you'd need to replace the fretboard, frets, binding and maybe the nut. I'm getting closer to a dream of redoing a 2618 and "vine-ify" it. It won't be a stock Ibanez vine, though. Not sure what I'll do with the body. It may actually be on there right now. It has been there for a long time now. I e-mailed the guy, never heard back. But... if you're gonna vine it up, you may want to look into it. There is no way of knowing how good the fingerboard material is. If it splits during installation of after 6 months it's going to be painful. Personally I would hunt about and find a good luthier. I have ordered several custom-inlaid headstocks over the years from Taiwan, and not a single one has remained without cracks. Wood has been both ebony and rsw.. Nowadays I prefer ebony because it is easier to repair.. btw. Keep in mind that its pearloid, not pearl. Its some sort of acrylic. But for $20, the pieces will fit nicely into my jig for cutting the real MOP. I also got a plastic pattern overlay from him for outlining the inlay.
