Did Ibanez make any really good vintage guitars with single coils or would going with another brand or newer Ibanez models be the way to go?

My buddy has an early seventies Ibanez strat. White. I've been trying for so many years to get it from him, he won't let go. Whatever single coil pups are in there, get the job done. It is a great sounding/playing guitar.

mk,

Depending on what sound your after, the 2343 and 2344, with the P90's or single coils are great playing.

Mike, how vintage does it have to be? There were some great Starfield single coils guitars from the early '90s.

This one is not mine, but is one of the more stratty models

Mk,

If you want to stick closer to Ibanez, why not look at the Greco SE450. Supposed to be the same as an Ibanez strats and much more available.

Actually, it doesn't need to be vintage at all. Just good quality with, if possible, no noise from the pickups.

For anyone that doesn't know, "Starfield" is the english translation of Hoshino, and was an Ibanez brand, like Maxxas or Artfield. When I got the Strat jones last year, I could not find many Ibanez S-S-S models in recent history. Then I discovered Starfield, Ibanez answer to the traditional guitarists of the 90s that wouldn't touch an Ibanez with 10 foot pole. They produced lower end guitars at FujiGen, and higher end models at the US facility in CA. Needless to say the company flopped. But they are very unique and interesting guitars. A good addition to the collection.

Several Roadstar and ALL the Roadster models have the triple single set up. A Blazer BL500 or BL550 is also a great single coil machine.

Can anyone tell what model Blazer this is and if it's any good. Certainly doesn't cost much:

It appears that the pickguard, pickups, and controls have been modified/changed. It's definitely NOT a BL550, they had color-matched headstocks.

I think the BL500/550 had more switches (ie: taps)

There's a 542R on eBay now. This is a great strat style if you want a slightly smoother and more refined take on the strat.

I'm confused about this 1982 model. Sky Blue finish, however, chrome hardware and plastic strat knobs rather than brass(?) knobs? Any thoughts?

Tnx,
mk

I think that's a BL350.

1978 Silver Series strat
White Ash body (blonde)
Rock Maple neck (L series headstock skunk stripe)
Standard strat tremolo
1 owner (me) since new
Has both original staggered pole piece pickups and custom set (Bill Lawrence/62 Strat/Semour Duncan) available, custom set currently installed but original set goes with the guitar.
Case is beat up (original) but guitar is not.

This is a superb single coil strat guitar, I mean really really sounds nice and plays fantastic. Ok, that's my own testimonial but I got plenty of cred from it in the hands of some great players when I did the rock musician thing for about 10 years , live and recording.

Good place to start, maybe.

I was planning to post a question when I saw this string. I have a set (3) of single coil pickups from a 1984 Roadstar. These have the single blade polepiece, and three wires (red, white and ground). They haven't been used in a while, but my memory is that they sounded pretty good with a fairly high output for single coils. I am interested in selling them but do not know a fair price. Contact me at garm@charter.net if you are interested or can suggest a fair price. Thanks.

Regarding my previous post, I just checked the Roadstar II info in the menu and these are from the 1984 RS430 model making them the V7 Blade pickups.
