I've got a 1978 Weir 2681 which I purchased on ebay 2 years ago for $750.

I was able to swap all of the gold hardware for NOS parts however, the PUP covers are looking pretty beat up - especially in contrast to the new hardware.

Does anyone have ideas or suggestions about either replacing or refinishing them? Wouldn't want to tackle either one myself. Located in NJ.

Thanks!

Hi Tom,

Great shots of the Weir. I thought it was Bob himself for a second.

Anyway, I assume you have a pair of Super 80 butterfly pickups on this guitar? If so, there is a problem removing the covers as they are set in a very tough and hard to remove resin.

This makes replating a risky task as you could easily damage the pickup trying to get the cover off.

I think a couple of guys here have had a crack at it but I am not sure of their results.

You would probably be better off looking out for some NOS Super 80's to replace the ones on your guitar.

What do you think?

Yes, they're the butterfly pickups. I'd be hesitant to mess with them myself - diy guitar mods are not my forte...

Would the NOS super 80's be without the butterfly covers? Any ideas where I could find them besides e-bay?

Hi again Tom,

No, they should have the butterfly (Flying finger)logo on the cover as usual. I would imagine most of the other members here are browsing this thread so there may be some lying around and for sale.

At the death, you may have to keep an eye out on ebay.

Good hunting

Hi
There's a guy in Huddersfield UK who has many NOS Ibanrz pickups for sale, though they aren't cheap:
