I went to a show at Sam Ash Cherry Hill. Admission was a can of food. The Larry Mitchell Band was there and Andy Timmons. Andy played with some taped tracks and soloed over them. Larry played a few songs with the band then Andy joined them for a jam. Awesome show! That was '92 or so. It was an Ibanez night!!! |

To be correct about it - the poster, from a Guitar Player/World magazine has a picture of Steve Miller's Iceman. The actual guitar for sale is most certainly not. It doesn't have the tailpiece.
Another case of misleading Ebay advertising.
Cool guitar at a good price though (so far).

Here's a picture of Steve Miller playing the Iceman. It's hard to see at this size, but it definitely has that long tailpiece. In fact, it looks completely stock, as far as I can tell.
However, I've seen this straight slotted tailpiece on another Iceman, lately. Looks like half of the later cloud tails. I suppose there's some chance that Steve changed it out..but I was suspicious when I saw it. |

I just looked at the auction description again. It's very hard to tell whether "he's" saying (1) it's actually Steve Miller's guitar, (that's what I assume from the way the headline reads) and the actual guitar that he recorded Fly Like an Eagle with, or (2) just showing "extra" evidence that Steve Miller indeeed played a guitar like this one.
Anyway, this guitar could NOT have been used to record the songs mentioned in the Alan Paul article that he shows, because that album was released in 1976.

I'm sure there are an extra couple of knobs (maybe EQ) in that pic John posted. That matches up with the 'Guitar World' centre fold but not the guitar being auctioned.

I examined the photo under a (digital) magnifying glass and I'm confident that the illusion of extra controls is caused by reflections off the tone and volume knobs.
For the benefit of the lurkers, the picture of Steve Miller above shows him playing a '76 Artist model 2663t (technically not named Iceman, at the time). Here's the catalog shot:

John, NAH,never was much of a Steve Miller fan, I was bidding on that guitar mostly because it is kinda a rare bird, and I really dig my IC400....I'm actually very surpised at how high the bids got on that one....... |

This picture of Steve Miller playing an Iceman is from a '77 Steve Miller Band tour book that I recently acquired.
You can't tell from this picture which model it is, but there are other pictures of his rhythm guitarist playing one that is clearly an IC210. So, I'm assuming it's the same guitar. |

That's not a guitar strap. That's one of his pants suspenders. The suspenders actually say "Rolling Stone" on them.
