The location looks like a compromise to fit into the existing control cavity. I think it would be difficult to get in between the control knobs to work the mini-switches. That looks like a rosewood fretboard, no? Is this a transition model? Not really a 2618? As in some other threads people commented, the year 1979 was a year to "get rid" of the older type thin bodies with smooth heel and pickup near the neck joint.. The tuners are Korean, made by Ping and are quite new..pickups could be Super80s originally, or not..but the tri-sound switches are definitely an add-on.. They had still quite a few Super80s in 1979, so my guess is, they would use the existing stocks out, as any manufacturer..   Skybone Username: Skybone Registered: 03-2001 Posted on Sunday, January 15, 2006 - 6:27 pm:    That looks like it's been slightly modded lower model... ;) My guess is a 2616 as the AR100 didn't exist at that point in time, it's a 2 piece back with plastic control cavity cavity covers and dot markers on rosewood. Those pickups are definitely aftermarket, didn't Super58's have 3 screw adjustment in the mid 80's? Someone's pimped their lower spec Artist. Not sure where your going with that assesment-the 2616 is a ES175 knockoff....Anyway, my bet is tht this is a AR100 that has had its creme colored V-2's replaced with some sort of gold covered humbucker. The splitter switches are , without a doubt, a later addition. Not a 175. No way Ibanez would put them there.
