AS-80 Hairline Binding Cracks

The problem is that it has six cracks, each is just underneath a fret. The seller has agreed to take it back, however, has anyone seen anything like this? It was made in 2000, therefore, it relatively new and shouldn't have this problems. Is it a problem with AS-80's or Korean-made axes? What would cause this? But I have seen necks shrink over time, causing the fret ends to protrude. I guess that could cause damage to the binding???
