Nice guitar ! Mike, don't kid yourself-that guitar sold for a bundle more than $500 ! The seller's only going to pay fees on $500. This practice is known as "FA"...Fee avoidance.....

"FA"?? That's a new one on me. That kind of practice skews market prices on items that are worth much more...such as that gorgeous AR2000.

I've seen that practice done in reverse. When I purchased that blond AS200NT, the seller RAISED the listed selling price to a ridiculous $3,000 to keep other bidders away after we worked out a deal. He lists other instruments that he has no intention of selling for upwards of $55,000 each! Crazy stuff indeed.

Tim... why does he "list other instruments that he has no intention of selling?" Why list something with no intent to sell? Just to show off his stuff and get people angry? That's a bit silly. Although, if he does do it to show off his stuff AND get people angry.... there is some humor in that. Psychotic humor, but still...

Bob~I couldn't figure it out either, except that he maintains an 'Ebay store' where he lists all of his 'inventory' until he's ready to actually put it up for sale. That is only my assumption since I do not sell on Ebay. I did not inquire about it since my only interest was getting my hands on the instrument he had for sale at the time.

Maybe others can chime in as to the benefits. I agree that otherwise, it is silly.

Tim, even his raising the price on that other guitar to $55,000 seems silly, and I understand your explanation of why he did that but.... Ebay charges you based on the listing price(as well as other listing and final sale factors.) He would have been better off just killing the auction and selling you the guitar. Now he owes ebay money based on a $55,000 listing. Ebay charges by percentages of the listing price. Obviously the percentage based on $55,000 is far greater than the percentage of an item listed at $1,000. You know what.... people are strange.

I think ebay charges like $16 per month for an ebay store. So... since that's not alot of $$$, I guess this guy has his reasons for doing what would appear to be... silly things and the $16 doesn't affect him. To each his own... I guess.

P.S. - I cut and pasted the following from his ebay store.....

"Tommy's House of Wayward Guitars
There is nothing for sale at this auction. Only pics of cool guitars and some info about my pick-ups. Disregard the $55K asking price. It means nothing. Please, ...no emails asking about the $55K. ha ha LOL. Jeez...do you need a book to fall on 'yer head or what???

Many of the guitars you see here may be available at...."

So... there you go enuff said.
