Here's the ICW-friendly version of the AR1200 Doubleneck auction. Please use it to place bids, if possible.

WELL... IF ANYONE HERE WINDS UP WITH ONE OF THESE GUITARS... AND IT'S EVEN HALF AS DECENT AS MY '83 AR1200AV... YOU WILL BE A HAPPY CAMPER, IT'S REALLY A NEAT GUITAR AND I AM STILL AMAZED AT THE FEEL OF BOTH NECKS. THEY BOTH PLAY LIKE BUTTER. To me, It's got a wider/flatter neck than the 2622 and the mc500, kinda like a Gibson acoustic guitar (width) feel to the neck. I forget which is supposed to be heavier, the earlier ones or the later ones but the '83 is quite manageable. You can get through a set with it anyway. Then... you'll want to sit down and have a beer. The pups get the job done on both sides (6 side/12 side) too. And for some reason, when folks see it, they sorta gravitate to it and say oooooooooooooh and ahhhhhhhhhhhhh stuff. Even folks that don't play guitars.

the seller wants to pay off an 83 gibby. I'd rather keep the Ibanez.

Even the case looks pretty sweet. I haven't seen any AR-1200 cases with the blue interior, only the green. Also, the pearloid tuners give it a different look compared to the gold finish of the regular velve tuners.

Very nice...

This is a nice axe. Estimate what it will go for? $2500?

I'm kinda puzzled and like to have some advice here. This one is very nice and all but why would it be worth $2,500? The pearloid tuners? I thought these are $1,500 guitars. Or should I come up for air more often?

Ace:

I was wondering the same as you.

But if someone is willing to pay $2500.00, I guess that'll be the next new price point. Makes me kick myself for passing up a mint '78 2640 for $1200!

Much of the fun of collecting Ibanez guitars is because they are (should I say were?) affordable...

My 2640 (and AR1200's) have gold tuners, are these velvet tuners unusual for double necks??

My ar1200av has gold tuners as well. I like the pearl! Considering a switcharoo. My mc500 has the pearl's and they actually keep the thing in perfect tune. I was surprised about that. very surprised. nevertheless, the pearlies keep the mc500 in fine tune and I wouldn't mind the pearls on my ar1200av. (I'd keep the original tuners around.) The axe in this thread is still at apprx. $1700 as of 2/6/06, with over 6 days to go. There should be a flurry of activity near auction end and maybe a few bids before that. Maybe $2500 is a stretch, but I have a feeling it may get there. Plus, you know what... If I had to have this guitar and I had to pay $2500, I'd kinda think it's worth it. The guitar lasts for years and years, it's not like you pay the $2500, eat it, and it's gone. For the amount of enjoyment you'd get owning this guitar over the years, it may very well be worth that. Plus... I've never seen one in this finish. How often do they come around? How often would you get a shot at one exactly like this? Not the greatest guitar in the world but a really neat one. I for one would like to own it.

Bob, I'd bet that one sounds TOTALLY different than yours - Super80s, Sustain Block, 1/2 Brass Nut, O-O-P Trisound option, Traditional Mahogany Body...The only thing similar to your 80s model are the 2 necks and the logo.

Perhaps you need a second one!

I do need a second one, you're correct Strings. If I had the $$$ that this one is gonna go for, I'd actually try for it... but I don't right now. I've never seen another one exactly like this one. It's neat to see and whoever gets it will most likely be very happy and they probably won't let go of it for a while. I considered selling my ar1200av and putting the cash towards this one but... if I let mine go and lost the auction I'd be pretty upset with myself. An ICW member ( a few of them) have expressed interest in my ar1200av so I don't think I'd have a hard time selling it. Winning the other guitar auction is an "indefinite" that I am not willing to try (at the loss of the one in hand.)I hope someone on this site gets that guitar, post photos and tells us all about it. I don't know if Daveg or Orval or Jeff are going for it but it would be nice if one of those guys wound up with it.

P.S. - Bidders outside the USA should read what the seller added concerning shipping costs outside the USA. He is saying expect between $400 and $500 or more shipping overseas. That is a considerable consideration I'd say. And... are we SURE that's a cs finish? Or... possibly the lighting is making it appear that way?

Ace... I think I agree with you. Someone above mentioned the "cs" but I'm not so sure. If it is/was cs, that would be real neat and would really be neat with the pearl tuners.

I don't know, the ebay one looks a lot redder to me, could very well be a cherry color. My 2640 is identical except for the tuners and in all the pictures I have it is not nearly as red as the Ebay one. This could be very rare indeed....

In determining CS over AV, I would recommend looking at the color in the middle of the body, not the color on the outer edge. If this were CS, the center would be more yellow, no? And if it were CW, it would not have a "burst" pattern at all. I'm unaware of any cherry wine burst. But that certainly doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. We've all seen some pretty strange variations over the years.

Still, I think this is (albeit a very nice) simple 2640 AV.

I agree with the analysis, but it just simply looks to me like the rim of the burst is in fact red. I emailed the seller to ask them for a comparison of how it looks in person to the picture and if the outer rim is in fact that red. I really like it though and I am hoping to get it, if the price does not get completely out of control!

it went for the $1675 that it was stuck at. I bet because... it turned out to be an "AV" not a "CS". I went under the assumption it was a CS for a while there. If it haed been a CS, I think it wouled have went for more. Still, a nice axe.

Not really sure I understand this discussion as this axe was never offered in CS.

So, you could either pay a fortune for a CS 'cuz you assume its rarity OR raise a smart eyebrow and wonder what wizard messed with the beautiful AV finish.

FYI, it was available in CW.

Strings, the only reason the "CS" came up is because... I think... someone above stated it was a "CS." If it was, then , to me, it was extra-special. But, it wasn't a CS after all.

I'm guessing it's a '79 as there is one listed on the Register that unofficially states that those ARE Super 80's even though it has the exposed poles/no flying fingers. huh...

Also, it has the newer non-kidney bean style tuners where the 77-78 model pictured above does not.

http://www.ibanezregister.com/images/images-vintage/gal-2612.jpg

They sure broke lots of molds at Ibanez back then!
Transitions...transitions...transitions

All of this is contingent upon whether or not it is indeed a 2640

Brent,
Looks like "'82" to me too which works 'cuz the Gibraltar II bridge (like Zilla's) did not show up till '83. That would make it an AR1200 with Super 58s not Super 80s
