There was a large post about gold plating some time ago. Apparently there is also a company in the US who do a good job too. The only trouble is, the gold plating is a different colour to the gold that comes as stock on Ibanez guitars. So if you only need to replate a couple of parts, there's a mismatch colour situation. And if you're an anorak like me, you prefer to keep with the original process for authenticity's sake.

Does anyone know about the gold flash procedure that is used on Ibanez parts? is it something that can be re-done? Alternatively, can the 'normal' replating process be performed with a more accurate colour (like gold flash), or is it just one colour?

An astute ICW member told me recntly that it was a 10k gold "flash plate." Whatever that means.

the plating that they do in amsterdam has a warm and not at all to bright goldtype colour witch is very nice .
on my 2622 i had it all done including all the nuts and screws.
the gibraltar bridge turned out to be a kind of scrapmetal cast iron like material witch was a bit pitted so that shows a bit and on the super 80's there was an amount of pitting but they could deminish this a bit but not tomuch or they would polish off the picture of the flying finger witch is offcourse to be saved!
all in all it is very nice and quite an improvemend! i am happy with the result can someone explain to me in simple terms how to post pics on this icw ?
so i can show you all my collection of 6 (!!!) artists....

Ekk... if you look to the left here on ICW you will see "formatting" topic. Look in there, it explains photo upload. How much did they charge you for the plating (in US $$$)? I am interested to know because I have some parts out now being plated. It's going on 3 weeks and it still ain't done. How long did yours take to get back?

Ekkerman, the Gibraltar bridge is made from castable mixed-alloy-metal called zamac, contains Zinc and other metals.. Badly pitted ones are difficult to gold-plate, says one goldsmith here in Finland, who usually plates all my guitar bits & pieces..
