This bridge on an artist?

Author Message   Fompsweeva Username: Fompsweeva Registered: 01-2006 Posted on Thursday, March 16, 2006 - 6:42 am:    I was browsing TOM bridges to replace for another guitar, and found this: http://www.allparts.com/shopimages/GB_0510-002.jpg Do you think that would fit well/look good as a Gibraltar 1 replacement? It's pretty expensive at $50, so you'd hope the quality is reflected by the price. I'm in Australia so I don't want to order it only to find it's incorrect for the job. It's marketed as an "SG bridge". Obviously I'd have to get a brass tone block made to fit this. If you are going to do it right, have you looked for a complete sustan block and Gibraltar I replacement? The SG type bridge (sans sustain block) would be correct for a late '76 to mid '77 Artist. But that doesn't sound like the years for your Artist. The sustain block has been replaced with a wooden block painted black with a schaller roller bridge (Chrome...yuck) I have tried looking for a gibraltar and block, but unfortunately haven't come up with anything. I bridge on my '73 SG is the exact dimensions for the bridge on my 2451. But yours is a '79 Artist which is wider across the bridge. My AR500 '81, is 2.5mm wider at the poles and across the strings than the SG. Tom. I�m restoring a quite fine 2617 Artist, unfortunately the hardware and pickups have gone missing during the years, and I am having quite a hard time trying to find replacements. Fortunately it does not have the sustain block..being 1976-model.. I support most strongly Overdrivers comment above! Besides, Ibanez book declares that a multitude of Gibraltar I-bridges were made in the nineties, I was wondering where they are now.. Also needed are the rubber "grommets" for pickup selector switch.. pearloid button tuners... I missed out on some super 80's by a few bucks on ebay... but they seem to be more common than general parts. I need to get a tone block made, so I'm thinking about just going with the gold version of the schaller roller bridge and getting a sustain block made for that... the only problem is it'll look so 'new' against all the aged gold hardware. Truss rod covers are hard to find. I'm thinking about getting one of these made, too. Once the pups, the truss rod cover and a solution for the bridge is found, the guitar is pretty damn close to original. Schaller roller bridge? You must have the brass sustain block drilled for standard 5-mm posts, not for those large Gibraltar posts.. Ex: "I can't get this jolly thing to work properly..." A swagman was an intinerant worker wandering around farms doing odd jobs. Swag refers to a rolled up sleeping bag or blanket tied to a rucksack. As for 'Waltzing Matilda', the meaning of that is lost in the mists of time.
