Snowjays:

Good eyes (and memory)! I don't think I've ever seen one of these Tele body/Strat neck deals, before.

BTW is this catalog card from your personal collection?

Mr Pirate:

Looks like Snowjays has given you the lowdown on your guitar. It looks to be in great condition.

Harry and Hasy are the experts on this era Ibanez, but I'd say that it is fairly rare. From a collector's POV, it's a very interesting specimen in that it shows how during the middle of their "replica era" they were experimenting by combining features from various models. It's almost like Hoshino let someone new loose in the parts bin for a day and this is what resulted.

John, Fender did these "experiments" as well so I guess it is an direct knockoff, not an Hoshinostein.

Paul

The Fender is ripped rom the net, the Ibanez is mine.

Paul:

I stand corrected. Thanks for enlightening me. I've never seen the Tele Deluxe before. I guess you can see my ignorance of the Fender models.

Any idea what year they were from? Had to be early 70s, if Ibanez was copying them in '73/'74. So you have one of these? What's it play like?

Lespaul.
Nice Ibanez indeed! My only inclination would be to put a black trussrod cover on it though....Teddy is presumably your guitar security guard....:-)

I am not familiar with the Fender history. All I know that right now there are a '77 and a '75 for sale in Holland. Sorry.

I resurrected mine. It was barely alive and pretty mutilated. If you're up for a shock I'll post before-makeover pics later.

I like the looks but that's all. It is a mediocre player at best and the pups are the worst Maxon's I ever heard. Add that to my dislike of the Fender scale and you can tell this one will leave my home pretty quick.
Y'all should check Harry's collection more often. He has a nice walnut finish one....

Fender introduced their Wide Range Humbucker sometime in late '71 or '72, and it was used on the Telecaster Custom, Deluxe, and Thinlines. Supposed the Custom at least lasted until '81, although it appears those models were pretty uncommon by decade's end.
