I can't afford to pay $1,400 for a 2387, so if that's where the prices have gone, they've gone away from me. Most 2387 Korinas I've seen go in the last few months are in the $800 range, give or take. I would go higher than that, but not much higher. In the end, patience will win out. So there's the one on Gbase, the one at The Gear Page, and Hasy's. I'm hoping one of those is in my range. Otherwise, my plan is to stay up late on weeknights (west coast advantage) and look to scoop a BIN auction.

Also, I'm open to the possibility of a Greco Korina V from the 1970's. There's one on eBay right now, offered at $1,100, but that guy's on crack. I was able to hold out for a great Greco LP for $400, I can wait for a great Greco V at $500 if I have to.

Chuck -

Prices on the V clones has gone up, too, although not as ridiculously as the Destroyer.

$1500 has been the going price for a VF/NM condition 2387CT/Rocket Roll Sr for a while now.

For $800, you can buy a player but not a collector.

I don't need NM. It just has to appear to be original from the front. LOL. I was thinking about this last night. It can't look chopped up or modded from the front (so it would need gold pickup covers [but not necessarily original pups], an intact pick guard, and the correct knobs). It could have a tiny hole here or there in the guard (like Hasy's V he's selling). It would need to have the correct tuners, though, and nothing done to the finish other than dings. The dings could be bigger on the back, too. I have a cherry burst PF200 that is absolutely gorgeous on my wall, and is a heck of a player, but if you turn it around, there's a big (ok, huge) ding to the paint on the back edge. I got it for $265 and that's fine with me.

So, all you peeps out there with less-than-mint Korina V's, drop me a line. I've got cash and it's burning a hole in my PayPal jean pocket.

For that matter, any front looking destroyers and I believe my pocket is bigger than Chucks, but keep in mind 1500 is way too much. My dad told me a fool and his money are soon parted!

All I know is that if Hasy sells his and the guy from The Gear Page sells his, then I'm in the hunt on eBay again. This time, though, I'll be a serious contender. In the recent past, I'd put a $500 bid on a Korina V, figuring I'd be outbid (which was good because I really didn't have the cash on hand, and I always was outbid), but this time it will be for real.

I bought the one on the Gear Page.

http://www.nationwideguitars.com/other.html

I got him down on the price and I'll let you guys know how it is once I receive it. It should be arriving by the 9th. I've really wanted a Rocket Roll V and especially after I saw Mike McCready of Pearl Jam (I'm a huge Pearl Jam fan) playing one about 10 years ago. There's always just been other guitars that I've wanted more, but now I figured would be a good time. Thanks Pete for posting that link!

I called the guy up inquiring about it. He was really nice and although I paid about what the one just went for on ebay that had the huge pickguard and all the modifications (pickups, coil switch, etc...), I think I got a good deal. This one's in good shape and is all original (minus the Gibson case) and I have a feeling these V's are going to only go up in price. I'm normally a Gibson guy, but I have a feeling this V is going to blow away any Gibson V.

Here's a pic of Mike McCready's V (I won't put stickers on mine. )

Good for you Roland, but that guy has really me off. I bid on it too and I specifically told him I was willing to bid again if there were higher offers, and I heard absolutely nothing from him. You're getting a great guitar, but he's a jerk.

Well, I was really mad there for a few minutes. I hope actually you got the one at GBase, Roland, so I still may have a shot at the one on The Gear Page. I just left a pretty mean posting on TGP, but just edited it to remove my invective. Either way, good score on your V, Roland, even if it is the one from TGP.

Not sure about the GBase one. I'm after one on The Gear Page, which is a website for musicians. Whew. I nearly shot myself in the foot on this one. The guy on "The Gear Page" has a bunch of literally brand new Ibby's from a train wreck back in 1976. Momo has snagged the Korina Destroyer, but the Korina V is still up for grabs, and I'm grabbing pretty forcefully. The guy running the sale is doing it for his mother's friend (whose husband originally aquired the guitars) and he is really dragging things out. It's a little infuriating.

Fact is that I just want to hear back from the guy. I don't know if I'll go higher than what I bid, but if it's just a hundred more, then, I might. It is dead mint, after all, and just about guaranteed to increase in value, even though I don't ever expect to sell it once I get it. I dunno.

I'm starting to loose track of all the guitars mentioned in this thread. Help me out.

What are you guys thinking is a fair price to pay for a korina 2387CT? Are you saying that pre-serial number makes a difference fron say a '76? Do you care if it comes with an original, albeit beat up case?

Check it out. I just saw these matching Vee and Destroyer bass and 6-strings at NJ Guitar show yesterday for $2500.00 a piece.

Chucke, im not defending the seller on TGP, but just to help you out on this a bit, the seller is in fact selling for someone else...this person has no clue about guitars as such, this is why she asked the help and why the seller is selling for her. Now I noticed that the seller said he would post back with new prices. If I judge how long it took the owner to get in action on these guitars(3 months!) after taking the desision to sell.....the fact that the seller has not reponded yet with new prices lends me to think the the owner is just not as passionate as we are, or just does not need the money that bad! Whatever the reason, I would tend to think that the owner is to blame for procrastinating on this... and the fact that PM's from 3 sites must be flooding in .Yea these guitars are sure stirring up some emotions!...mine included, when I started negociating in July for the Destroyer, I had a couple of sleepless nights, seeing myself on stage with the Destroyer, playing like I never did before! wondering if I was to be the lucky one...only to crash heavily into reality in August thinking the owner would not sell.
Had the same feeling all over again last week when the details were posted, was cranky, impatient, wanting to beam the darn guitar instantly on my lap.....
I happen to beleive that there are no coincidences in life, I will not get in the details, but I must say that there were alot of events leading me to this guitar!, all sides pointed me in that direction, and well if I beleive in fate, I was destined for this guitar.
Anyway, I hope I dont come across as bragging or being an ashole, I really understand what you guys are living, its my first real "Holy Grail" buy after missing out on 2 since 3 years and well I think some of you guys have had that luck before, so you too can understand how I feel.
Best of luck to all you guys making a deal on these "Holy Grails"
Cheers

John, what makes the V at The Gear Page worth the extra $$ is the fact that it is literally brand new in case, with the paper still on the pickguard, even. I'd like to think a run of the mill, vintage Korina V is still worth around $800, but it seems in the last month or two that that number has jumped up to the $1,000 range. I've seen Destroyer and V basses on eBay for about $1,300 each, so I think the prices at the show are way out of line, except for the Destroyer 6-string.

Momo, I understand that the guy is being an agent for another person, but he's been saying "one more day..." for about a week now. He has to either be more realistic in his estimates or get off the stick. I'm not waiting around for him anymore. If he contacts me, great. If not, then I'm at peace with that too.

Is that a coil tap switch in that Destroyer or is it just camera glare?

Yes, it's some kind of added switch. I didn't ask, but a coil tap sounds reasonable.

We could probably start an entire thread on that: Remove the paper or keep the paper? When I get the V, I will start a new thread on it over in the Replicas area, and I'll start with that question.

Well Im definetly taking it off!, yes I have a collectors guitar, but that is not going to stop me from playing the heck out of it! Ill put the paper in a ziplock and keep it in the case.....seriously, if you plan on playing it, then im my opinion, it will get some small nicks/scratches on the pickguard and that is expected.
In other words I think the desision would be to play it or keep it in the case as your ultimate pension plan!
