Not a pristine collector’s piece, but a superb player’s instrument. I found this instrument at Alex’s Music on 48th Street in NYC about ten years ago. It had been brought in to have the fretboard replaced several years before then, and was never picked up. It was sold to me for cash, “no questions asked” . . . . you gotta love New York.

As I said, the fretboard’s been replaced - with ebony. The neck pickup’s original, but the bridge p’up was changed to some kind of DiMarzio that was tucked into what is presumably the original pickup’s faded gold cover. The putput jack has been moved to the Gibson ‘58 V’s position on the lower leg of the V.

One side of the bridge was moved once (I think the instrument was set up lefty at one time) and had since been returned to the original position. The hole’s been filled. The strap button’s been moved, and moved back as well. An extra strap button is mounted in the crotch of the V.

Looks like two of the three tone/vol knobs are original. The other’s a Gibson style piece.

The back of the neck/headstock (the black part) looks like it’s been repainted. I say this because the paint lines don’t match any Rocket Roll I’ve seen before. I’d suspect a headstock repair, but don’t see any evidence of that. If there was a serial number, it was wiped out in the repaint. Perhaps this was part of the fretboard replacement? The nut was replaced with bone when I had the guitar refretted a few years ago.

The gold hardware’s worn. The finish has multiple nicks & dings, some belt buckle worming. Looks good at a distance, like onstage!

It’s no museum piece, but I cannot overemphasize how well this guitar plays. The modifications have only made it a better player, likely better than any “all-original” Rocket Roll. No dig on Ibanez, but these guitars were built to a certain price-point, right? How well does it play? It’s easily the equal of my $3000.00 Hamer Korina Vector. Includes original hard shell case, which is in good shape save for a broken latch.

$650 plus shipping. Please email me at lauricemm@comcast.net and I’ll do my best to answer any questions. -Rick
