AM300 for auction

Is this true? How would you compare the AM-300 vs. the AM-50. Was the AM-300 towards the end of MIJ AM guitars (1990)? What do you think about the single volume & single tone controls vs dual controls? Thanks, Michael   Funkle Username: Funkle Registered: 12-2001 Posted on Sunday, August 21, 2005 - 7:55 pm:    Michael, The AM300 and AM400 are very different from the other AMs. The AM50 is constructed like a traditional semihollow guitar, which is assembled from thin plywood tops backs and sides, with a solid center block. The AM 300/400 starts with a solid mahogany block. Hollow tone chambers are routered into the top of the block, then a laminated mahogany top is glued on. It is extremely thin, and has a very comfortable rounded back. The neck is great too. The AM300 is mellower sounding than an AM50, and more solid sounding, but still more airy than a solid body. Sort of a hybrid between a semi and a mahogany solid. The AM300/400 was the finale to the AM heyday. A radical departure from the other AMs, and a fascinating guitar. This particular guitar is popular with ICW members, as it has been owned by Mike G, Mr. Roadstar, and myself The single vol and tone never bothered me. I like it better than an AM50 for its warmer tone. I think this came from the mahogany construction verses the maple in the AM50. The AM 300/400 are thinner than other AM's and are very comfortable to play. It is one of my top favorites. Ace
