I am courious,,I have two of these copies and I think that they are one of the most accurate clones that Ibanez ever produced. I also have several of this model made by Gibson. The courious thing is that this model was the first original design for Gibson by Bill Lawrence (of the pickup fame). Bill designed this guitar from the pickup to the body, but at the last minute Gibson changed the shape to a traditional LP configuration. Now for the interesting part... The Gibson version of this guitar features an extra powerful pickup with a smooth cover and potted in epoxy. Both of my Ibanez versions of this guitar have a very powerful (very heavy, thick ) pickups POTTED WITH A WHITE EPOXY......I have never seen a Epoxy potted pickup in any other Ibanez model before 1979 or so, these clones are I suppose 1974 or so (pre serial number) What is amazing to me is that -it seems- that this clone was not just a copy made up of interchangeable stock parts, but rather a very carefully designed copy that also copied the components right down to the pickups ! Anyway I could convince you to send me a picture of the back of the pickups on this guitar ?These guitars are awesome and I would appreciate any comments regarding the oversize pickups !   Daveman Username: Daveman Registered: 11-2005 Posted on Sunday, November 06, 2005 - 6:03 pm:    Hi Dave, Thanks for the message. You are right, the L6S copy is pretty spot-on. I have seen a few Gibson originals in London. The only significant difference appears to be the numbering for the Vari-tone. The numbers are embossed on mine and raised on the Gibson scratchplate. I also have an Antoria Tele Deluxe copy from 1977 and it's also fantastic. The pickups have two lines of three offset pole pieces, like a Fender original, except the pickup covers are the size of standard humbucker covers, whereas Fender covers are slightly larger and squarer, I have checked the back of the pickups on the L6S and they are white epoxy as you mention. How do your Ibanez copies sound compare to your Gibson version? I will get a pic posted of the guitar soon.
