Hey Michael,
Looks like an AR500 to me. Just some minor changes in control locations.
Why do you think it is not an AR500? (or 3000?)

Wow, you're right...it's an AR-500...it's been messed with so much I didn't recognize it!
- the 4 filled in holes are where the (2) coil taps, eq switch & eq light used to be.
- the current placement of the coil taps is where the eq level & hi-band eq pots used to be.
After reading the description several times and looking at the pictures, I've come to the conclusion that it should be reasonably easy to restore it back to the its original condition. Who's gonna do it? |

What are you guys crazy ? I wouldn't change a thing-afterall it has its original holes "tastefully plugged with pearl dots"-you just can't find that level of lutherie ANYWHERE (well mabey at Guitar Center) anymore... .......

Well,first the 3000 was only made 1980-81, it has that special binding overall, neck, peghead & body, there is Limited Edition inlay on fretboard, the trussrod cover is wood veneer on brass..even that famous fleur-de-lis inlay on peghead is different, believe me or not.. 
So definitely this specimen is not AR 3000. Not even close. It is modified AR 500CS alright.. |

...but the position of the four plugged holes are not correct. Oh what the heck, it's a butched AR however you look at it.

Ace, the holes are correct, but I admit, they are a little bit hard to figure, because two knobs have been omitted..

The four small holes on AR500's are off-set and do not form a square like the ones on this "modified" speciment. But then as I said, what the heck.

Interesting point: the holes on the AR500 I recently sold were aligned in a square.

Hmm Emilio, it only needs a little work and some good old magic in the electronics section.. Maybe needs rebuilding the EQ-board, maybe not.. anyway I happen to have potentiometers for EQ, 20 kOhm special center-notch, so it should not be overwhelming.. Lets see, 7 days to go.. might as well try my luck... |

Emilio, then I will make a exact attack on that one.. If the price is right, that is. If I did such restoration work to someone else, it would be maybe even a couple of hundreds. I mean, if the EQ-board needs a complete re-capping. The capacitors have a tendency to leak, more so because the board has been removed. IC might also been faulty, or the owner felt that the whole EQ-section was useless. Anyway, the result is one fine AR500 with more or less AR300-electronics. |

Bob, I did not even try...After 875 dollars I thought it would be "almost hopeless"... Besides, I have owned one AR 500 for almost 10 years, although a cherryburst one would have been nice.. *sob..*
It went a little over 900, so the prices are definitely on rise..
Considering all the work (and possibly the parts needed) the cost woukd have been a little bit too much, you must also add USPS sending costs to Europe..
So I hoisted the white flag..being primarily a player and guitar tech, some sort of "collector apprentice" for just fun... |
