No worries Geoff, let's hope the combined eagle eyes of ICW track it down for you and return it to its rightful owner.

Yikes man, definitely will keep our eyes peeled! Hope you were insured (even tho it's probably irreplacable).

FWIW - I just got an alarm system installed on my house, and it's probably the best money I've spent. Granted, it's probably not bullet proof, but it definitely helps with the piece of mind.

man I wish I could say the same!!!

we have a black lab that I think would bring her toy to the strangers to throw. She never barks at the door, even the UPS man! Just looks out the window with a toy in her mouth.

Thus, the alarm system. Hooked up to the po-po and all. Nice sense of security.

It would be great if Captain Ibanez, Sixvsix and Spiro could keep a weather eye open too.

Geoff, have you tried contacting all of the Cash Converters in your area? You could also check if any shops have traded it on another guitar.

Sorry to hear about the loss Geoff, I'm up in Sydney but if by chance it turns up on my radar I'll be in touch straight away. Good luck, hope it turns up.

Cheers
Pete

Good News!
Had word today that my PF has been found and resold to a dealer. An eagle eye in Canberra is apparently responsible! When I get it back I'll be looking him up to say a big thank you. I haven't got his name yet from Caulfield Police but when I do I'll give him a call. The guy (junkie of course) is up for a string of burgs and this site has helped to (hopefully) nail him. Bummer is that the dealer wants to be paid, but at least I know where it is now. Many Many thanks to the one who spotted it and many thanks to you all for your interest and suggestion. It is greatly appreciated. Come around for a jam sometime. : ) Better wait until I get it back though : ) Thanks very much to Frank Muller for the suggestion, Frank you helped arrest a guy!
best wishes and warm thoughts to you all

Geoff Irvin

Cool! That is good news!

Hopefully the dealer will cut you a break, your cut him a break on the costs.

I'm not sure how the laws work, but in my area, used guitar dealers aren't required to submit the serial numbers of guitars that pass through the doors to authorities. A nice loophole for those looking to turn over stolen goods.

Yes Brent and now I can name the hero as Noel from Canberra. I won't use his last name in case of retribution from the Junkie, at least without his permission but if he allows I want to nominate him as a seriously cool dude. Are there any regular awards on this site? Noel was browsing for bargains and noticed the serial number on the back of the head stock . How cool is that.

I have to say that the photo's the dealer did were really good quality, much better than I had of the old axe and
I'll have to thank him as well.

Perhaps there should be a database for stolen guitars and or other equipment. This was really lucky. I lost a Gallian Kruger head and some other stuff two months before the last one and haven't been so lucky there. It's probably the same culprit so you never know.

Cheers

Geoff

That's great news, Geoff. You're now part of the community that's ICW, and as the resident PF400 expert, we're looking forward to hearing more from you!

Let us know how you resolve the issue regarding payment for the guitar with the dealer. Surely he has no choice but to hand it back to you? You will have reported the theft to the police, so I would have thought you have a pretty strong case in your favour. Maybe your insurance company can step in here?

Thanks very much to Frank Muller for the suggestion, Frank you helped arrest a guy!

My pleasure Geoff, we need to keep these parasites off the streets. Having been subjected to burglary myself, I can sympathise with you.

Guys:

This is a great thread. Even though this isn't completely resolved yet, the fact that alerting the "community" to a loss and that process can actually make a difference, is really great to hear.

ICW was founded to educate by sharing info. It's cool that a level of protection is a by-product of that education.

Keep up the good work, guys!

Hi there all. Here is a photo taken about 2 hours ago of me (on right) getting my PF400 back from Matt of Guitars Plus at Sandringham. GuitarsPlus.jpg Thanks to Chris and Matt for their help and friendly assistance. They have a fantastic range of new and rare guitars and an extraordinary depth of knowledge about vintage and collectable guitars. Chris also identified the original case that the PF400 came in, confirming it's history. .. despite the fact I know the guitars history etc ... very knowledgable. Check out their website www.guitarsplus.com.au

To answer your question flatbag the pickguard is tortoise shell but has a small crack in it now I'm afraid.

To answer your questions Frank, the law here is grey. The dealer bought the guitar in good faith as did the pawn broker (apparently) I have paid the dealer half what he paid, and apparently the Pawn broker is going to help out with the other half. Personally I think the Pawny is the guy who should fork out all as he made money on our other stuff too, and we all know that they are really fences with a quasi-legitimate face. I'd like to see these guys being held more responsible for their actions. Apparently he told the dealer that it was brought in by a regular 'legitimate' supplier. Well the Junkie's put up his hands for another 15 counts apparently so I'm sure the pawny would never have suppected... (yes that is irony). Anyway I'll try to help with any questions you guys have re the PF400. I'm not sure I'm an expert Frank but I play the blighter and that's something I guess. Best wishes all... Geoff
