have a 1980 Studio 8 string bass that I absolutely love, but I have no use for it with all 8 strings. I played it for a couple years as my main 4 string bass (the bass strings are positioned lower to accomodate the octave strings, and these don't have the active EQ sculpting knobs, just an on/ off switch for active eq), but I would prefer another actual 4 string. I thought about selling it on ebay (even started an auction and cancelled it a couple months ago), but decided that the only way I could justify getting rid of such a quality instrument is in trade for another vintage Ibanez (I get kind of attached to my instruments!). So- if anyone has a Studio or Musician 4 string that they would be interested in trading for an 8-string, It would make me very happy!
Condition- It is not mint, but in pretty good condition for a players bass that is 26 years old! No major problems, just a fair amount of dents in the finish, all of which are on the sides or back (none visible on the front), and none of which appear to reach through to the wood (it appears to be a very strong finish). All of the hardware is original and in great condition, just a little tarnish on the tune-o-matic style bridge (adds character). The electronics are in perfect working order (volume, tone, active switch, active volume, pickup selector, and 6-way tone switch) except that the 6-way tone switch is a little scratchy when switching between the topmost position and the next one down (both of which are too muddy for my taste anyway!) but the scratchiness goes away when you are not moving the switch (I'm assuming it can be fixed easily enough). Oh yeah, it has the original case- a little beat up but works perfectly!
Please excuse my run-on sentences and thanks for looking!
I have pictures, email me if interested.
Thanks, Karl Zickrick
