Paul....I think all the pre-serial number CA's (starting in '73) had logo pups...the pickups are ink stamped on the back....perhaps at some point someone changed out the covers on this one as a restoration ? The Logo covers disappeared sometime in '76-77 along with some other cosmetic tweaks including the "bug" headstock inlay/applicae, belly curve,etc. Its hard to determine when these changes took place without serial numbers to go by, but-based on the couple of dozen CA's I have had the pleasure of examining, I believe the LOGO pups came first then at some point in late '76 Ibanez switched to a normal S 70. The CA design did undergo some other changes in '75-'76 including a change in body thickness as well as the others mentioned above.... I would guess that this CA was made in 1975/6 right about the time the headstock changed...is there a belly cutout ?}

Sorry, i had to sleep a little bit...
@dave: I bought this CA from the first owner (5 Years ago). He told me that details - I will have a look under the pu´s. Can you show me an example of the belly cutout?
best regards

Hey Lespaul,

Is there something special about Maxon pickups? We have a pre-serial black Ibanez bolt-on Les Paul copy with the original Maxons and it sounds great. I replaced the gold covers recently with Mighty Might ones ($5US each plus $5 postage to Australia!) and it looks brilliant. In any case, are the Maxons highly sought after though? I had heard this but am not really sure about it.

Thanks,
James

Eric, Heres a pict that will show some of the differences between various "types" of CA's

The one on the left shows the Belly Cutout. This example is a 1978 (one of the last ones)and is 1/8" thicker than any of the other CA's I own. This one also has a different TR cover (Block letters)

The one on the right is an early one, note the smaller control cavity cover with 6, not 4 screws.

This is the 1978

@ Jimmys: Generally Maxons are considered poor quality at best. So not very sought after. I have a few guitars equipped with them and they kinda suck. I have one however that howls and wails beautifully. I guess it all comes together in that one.

The back of Superart's pups also makes me think Maxon. Maybe another case of dumping the leftovers back at the factory?

@ Superart: do the electrics solderings look original/untouched?

Paul

@Lespaul: I´m shure that the electric is original and untouched.
I used this guitar for our song "crackpot" as leadguitar with a fender hotrod deluxe. If you need:
www.mondoguzzi.de>music>crackpot
The rythmguitar is a Yamaha SG 1000 with a marshallstack played by our guitarist alex...
