Blackknife this is an old post . When the site was updated on October 8 2004 with new software all of the post prior to then carry that date. So it could be 3 years old for all we know.

I figured it was worth a try. I knew it was an old post (how old I didn't know) because I saw it before, but was turned off by the add-on trem system on the 2681 mentioned. After being outbid, and sniped time & time again on ebay for every 2681 that surfaces, I'm willing to try anything!

Thanks for the heads-up freak

Blacknife:

Sorry to hear that your jones for a 2681 has gone unfulfilled...as yet. Keep trying and it will happen. Most collectors will tell you the same thing. If you keep seeking, you will find.

Guitarjo is a person to get to know. Although he keeps his presence on the web very low key, he has been dealing in good quality Ibanez for many years and has had gobs of great guitars go through his hands. He sold the extremely rare 2675 to IbanezCollector, seen in this thread: http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=12&post=22523#POST22 523

The last email address I have for him is: guitarjo@comcast.net

I have faith...I've been close several times, but maybe there was a "reason" it didn't come my way...who knows! I'd REALLY like to find one of those custom Weir guitars like in the link below

http://dozin.com/bobs/interview/custom.html

Does that guitar have any ID or is it strictly custom? From what I've read about it, it's made just for the man, although I saw Bobby Cochran (Steppinwolf/Bobby & the Midnites) playing a VERY similar one which might have had 3 humbuckers if I remember correctly.
Thanks for the contact info for guitarjo. I put a reply in one of his posts of my search for the 2681. Hopefully something will happen..........someday!
Thanks again guys...I really appreciate the help & advise!

Hang in there Blackknife,it WILL come to you! I was on the same quest as you until I finally paid too much for one(which anyone on this board will tell you!). But, it was well worth it, so keep searchin'! The guys here kept the trip fun too! Maybe soon I will post the only "special pic" I may ever have to offer the fine people of this board! Good luck.

BTW....that is a GORGEOUS 2675! Oh, and that guitar in the link I posted is a double cutaway which you can't really see in the pic. A more radical cut than an artist, but the horns are a bit softer, maybe like a 2612. Same body inlay as the 2674, 2675, and 2676 except for the inlay directly behind the tailpeice....interesting! Weir also had one exactly like the one in the link, without any body inlay.
Here's another interesting guitar he was seen with in the 70's...a double neck which I have never seen anywhere but the pic in the link below:

Blacknife:

That's a fantastic picture of Weir and the doubleneck! Could this have been a prototype for the 2640! The 12 string headstock is too cool.

Here's another picture of Weir that shows a portion of the Cowboy guitar.

Jeff Haselberger talks about the Cowboy guitars in the following thread:

WOW...I never saw that pic before. Here's a pic I took at a Providence Civic Center GD show in the early-mid 80's showing the "other" cowboy guitar I referred to without the inlay:

here's a few more from various shows/years:

God, it must have been nice to have a company like Ibanez build you anything your heart desired!!
I'm thinking about making Andrew Butler an offer on his dark stain 2681. Hopefully he'll be willing to "work" with me on the price. I'll post back if we can work something out.
