HI all! I have an Ibanez LS-500BK. In all the posts here and searches on Google I have never come across this model number. I have seen alot of similar ones, such as the LS-510BK, but never this exact one.
It is the 80's model that has the inline tuning pegs and the narrower neck. The serial number is: 851000652D.
I'm just curious about it. I was actually looking for another one like it and that's when I realized I can't find it anywhere.
Can anyone let me know if this is rare, and why it is so difficult to find used ones of this style? I prefer the narrow neck and the inline tuners!

Jen... did you google it? If you do... try it with the dash, without the dash, try a few different nuances in the search.

check this link, it may help. the last 2 letters in the model number usually denote finish of the guitar and that may be what's hindering your searchrs. Leave the "BK" out of it. Check this link I believe it may help you or even be exactly what you are looking for. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ibanez+LS500& btnG=Search

Jennifer,

I couldn't find anything but the LS510 either, as Acetan shows above. Nothing on the LS500. I think your serial number is likely one digit too long, Jennifer (could you check). In any case, that's clearly 1985, if that helps.

Enjoy!

Thanks guys. I am having the same problem as you, however. I can find nothing on this model. I checked the serial number again and it is 85100652D. I may have had an extra zero in it the first time I posted.
Mine looks very similar to the LS-510BK, but the pearl inlays are not the triangular shape of the 510. They are dots and they are on the top of the fretboard. If you were playing it, they would be on the top. If you are looking at it in a stand, they would be on the far left side. They are not in the center.
I bought it new in the 80's so the 85 in the serial number makes sense. It's just so weird that it's as if this one never exsisted!

Jennifer, I'm working on a theory with the serial numbers - yah, the extra zero was throwing me off.

If I'm right, your LS-510 was built in October of 1985. :-) I haven't discovered yet which factory the "D" represents, but many of the acoustics from the mid '80s were built there. Definitely the Lonestars (like yours) and the Pro-special JA series.

Good luck in the hunt for info. If I ever spot anything on the LS-500, I'll let you know.

Yes, it is. The very first picture. And the tuning pegs are black. I saw a picture of a black guitar with a fretboard like mine but the tuning pegs were gold. Out of all of the LS models listed, there was no 500. It is so strange!

Is your guitar a full acoustic dreadnaught or is it an acoustic-electric?

A picture would be great.

Freak, folks,

You can see all the catalogs at this great German site. http://www.music-meinl.de/ These are stored in Acrobat PDF form, but can be printed. Click on Gitarren U Basse, then click on Service&Download -> Katalog Archiv -> Ibanez Gitarren, and then work your way through the pages to find the relevant catalog.

Ace, if you have another source online, that'd be great to know.

Best wishes, folks.

Thats where I got the link above but the differance is that Ibanez distributes different models in other countries that don't get in the USA cataloga or German catalogs and also some Aussie catalogs have ther own models you don't see in the german download. That site has some great info but not ALL of the catalogs worldwide hence my question and referal to Captain Ibanez.

Indeed, Freak. As the Captain has said, there is a lot out there that has no documentation.

I'd also mention http://www.break-even.org/ibzscans as a great source for catalog data. This doesn't have everything (nothing does, as Freak said), but it has easy access in that you can click on catalog pages and they pop right up (you can them save them as images).

Finally, the easiest information on the acoustics, though quite spotty, is http://www.noahjames.com/vintagepage/acoustic.html I think that site is run by Jim Donohue, but I'm not sure about that...
