I looked carefully at the 1979 catalog, and that shows a truss rod cover (and different tuners) on the V-380. Looking at the 1981 catalog, I didn't spot the exact V-380 model, but I do see the truss rod cover is gone and the tuners are matching. So, I think this guitar is likely a 1980-1982 model (not a '70s).

Hello all,

I just signed up when I found this topic while searching for info on the V-380. I'm the one who bought it and it FINALLY just arrived today. It's in really fine shape for its age, which I'm hoping we can get closer to figuring out. Just a few very light surface scuffs that can easily buff out and the frets are in pretty decent shape, they're more tarnished than worn. I may have it Plekked and setup to get it as close to perfect as I can. The rosewood is beautiful and the mahogany neck is straight and true. The spruce top is clean as a whistle and has no marks on it at all except for pick marks on the guard. A very nice build and solid as a rock. I'm trying to determine whether the neck has been removed or just simply has a couple of finish cracks at the join. It doesn't look like it's been off, probably just stress cracks as it's incredibly clean. Nothing serious. I gave it a little tweak on the truss rod (just inside the soundhole) to add a little needed relief. The strings look 20 years old, so I haven't attempted to fully tune it yet. I have no idea how old it is, but here is a photo of the label. The serial # is 790606. It smells OLD! The hardcase is minty as well. I hope I didn't grab it out from under someone here who wanted it. Here are a couple links to the photos. I can't possibly make them under 50K where they'd show the detail I'd like. The label has the old logo and some neat silky metallic color in the paper.
