Please, remind my neighbours

Hm, did Vito's neighbours suggest classical in place of noisy electric? And my neighbours will ...

Nice, but it's a bit more than a classical.
It's a reinforced classical: a flamenco guitar!
The blonde wood seems to be Cypress. I'd like to stick my nose into that one!
If it's solid cypress it must smell really sweet. Solid cypress guitars are quite expensive.

Ginger, do you have any catalog information on this model? I tried to find some for Vito, but couldn't on any of the online places I know to look.

Vito, lots of great pictures, but do you have any of the inside headstock (where the serial number is)?

Oh, hey, one other thing, Vito...

Watch out for the metal edges that line your hard case. They can scratch the crap out of your guitar. Ouch.

I got this guitar, because it is no use for them any more and they used to keep it in the loft, therefore it smells more of dust than of wood. I have never had electric, by the way :-)

I have already noticed that the wood is very soft and sensitive to metal, so I'm being very careful now. :-)

Can you tell me a little more about flamenco guitars? My knowledge on classical guitars is very limited...

These photos are the best I could get. I'm not able to take picture of the inside headstock from inside, because cameras flash is too strong.

Many Thanks,
Vito

No need to apologize for your photography, Vito... those are some great shots!

And... a beautiful instrument!

My knowledge of classicals is mostly that of using my wife's old, cheap student classical, mostly for figuring out odd chords, arranging, etc., but I can plainly see, that what you have there is a very well made guitar.

Congrats on the guitar & on having such great neighbors!

Chazmo, I don't even have catalogue information about my own Ibanez Andorra Recital GA 300S, which is even a bit younger. But I have the catalogue of 1988, which contains the price of the Andorra Recital GA250S, so one type lower. So that's some indication. Mine is a bit higher and a bit more expensive than the 250S. They were rosewood, but not solid. The tops were solid cedar.
In the Argus list the GAxxxS models are all 400 euros, which is in fact nonsense of course.
The 28xx series are even cheaper in this list.
But Cypress F models are a different kind of story.
They are NOT in the Argus list, but if you go looking for any good brand cypress flamenco guitar, you pay at least 900 euros new.
So the value of this guitar is at least 1/2-2/3 of what you would normally pay for such a new guitar today.
So we're talking 450-600 euros.
That would be $606-810 if you would buy from Europe, plus plus plus...
I know that European masterbuilt concert guitars are very expensive in the USA. (Compare for example the prices of a Dieter Hopf Professional or higher in the USA and directly from Germany).
But Ibanez doesn't come through Europe, so the Euro-Dollar calculation is perhaps not adequate for Ibanez. But don't ask me for the prices in Yen.

Fact is: you have a beautiful flamenco guitar, as far as I can see made from Cypress, that's the best you can get. Second best would be Sycamore, which is about 25% cheaper. Compare for example the Alhambra 7FC and the Alhambra 7FS.
And I know an Alhambra 7FS (sycamore) sounds like a cannon. (Tried it under the dome of our local church).
Because good flamenco guitars are reinforced under the top and often also in the neck (ebony skunk stripe) you may use extra high tension strings.
I prefer the Savarez (Carte Rouge) on my flamenco guitar. They're French, so probably expensive in the USA. So perhaps you'd better stick to d'Addario.

It can always be better :-)

Well, neighbors are even better than this guitar, imagine that !

I think I will have to change a case for this guitar, it deserves a better one (one that would not make any harm to it).

I have been comparing this instrument to different classical guitars (good quality Ibanez, Admira, bought for about $400) and this one has got better tone. I wonder what could be a value for my instrument. 25 years ago it was 200 GBP and that would be about 1000 GBP now, because each 1 GBP 25 years ago would be worth same as 5 GBP now. 1000 GBP is about $2000 (!) (American dollars). Am I being mad, or has it changed over the years ? :-)

Question: Am I supposed to use any special strings for a classical flamenco guitar (different than just for a classical)?

Thanks a lot and take care !

Well, I remember the pound has been 10 guilders in the 79s. So a guitar of 200 pounds would have been 2000 guilders. That's 900 euros or 1215 dollars.
If you apply the 1/2-2/3 rule that would be $607.50-810

Hmm, that's almost exactly what I said before.

Among classical guitarists is no real "Ibanezitis", like we know it among electric guitarist. So, the 1/2-2/3 rule is quite applicable in this case.

I have some interesting info about cases for Ibanez classical guitars.

I have an all plastic case from TAMA, that's quite good. I use that one for my Alhambra 7F.
I also have a TKL case, which was sold with a discount because it was too narrow for most guitars. But my Andorra GA300S appeared to be smaller than all my other classical guitars and it fitted exactly.

So, I would say TAMA or TKL. TAMA is probably historically more correct, but if you can get a small TKL with a discount you have the best fit.

TKL (just like Levy) also made gigbags for Gibson, so they must be quite good. At least I'm satisfied.

Ebay Item #140103872630

Mine is ABS.
This is a different type, but you could give it a try... That is... if you're in the USA now.
$30.- and ZERO bids and about 5 hours to go...

Let's see...
Oh sh..., you're in Poland, that's a bummer. Shipping cost, PLUS PLUS PLUS.

I'll look for something nice in Germany, that won't be much of a problem... (8 euros shipping or so).

To be honest I'm in England now, I have moved around here some time ago. I have tried to find something in my City, but they have only got sort of case like mine.
Has anyone of you got a case for sale?

Just type "TKL 8500" in Google, and take one that's cheap and in the neighbourhood, Vito.
I already found one for $64.95 (other side of the ocean).
