Hi im a member of the board for awhile and own several old ibanez i primarily gig acoustic these days and currently am using a Taylor 814CE and a Yamaha Compass CPX8 for backup, i have about 300-400 for a decent acoustic dreadnaught no electronics just to strum at home learn songs and basically beat and save my gigging axes for well gigging.
i was thinking of picking up a Yamaha FG-730S natural or Ibanez Artwood AW200 installing a simple fishman basic passive pickup and a Strap button (just in case i lose the giggers in a horrible Chipper accident).
if you guys had to choose which beater acoustic would you buy or is something else i might consider looking at again basically just to hammer out tunes at home maybe put a condensor on it and record at home the Yamaha get goood reviews at 299.99 any advice would be appreciated
Im leaning towards the FG-730s or 750s(Sycamore back) anyway thanks!

How did the Ibanez AW-40 compare? I played one today... thought it was nice. It was vined to boot. |

Take a look at the new Exotic Wood EW20ASNT from Ibanez. They come without electronics and you can get one for about $200-225. Now its not going to compare to your Taylor, but its a fine instrument for the price (and pretty nice looking to boot!).
Its not quite as large a full dred in size. It will be a bit larger than your 814, more of an exagerated figure 8 shape than a traditional dreadnaught. And if you need a cut away, then you'll have to go up to the EW20ASENT, which is "electrified".
I have one of these myself that I keep at my office. Its a great little guitar in my opinion. And it keeps my co-workers away from my Taylor!

Thats great advice ill check both out the exotic and the aw40 which i havent seen yet in the stores ive been into i appreciate the advice or ideas! you guys are great I love this board!

I did play the Yamaha FG-730S today. Really nice guitar! It sounded great (good low end and not too bright). |

Just a thought, but if you want a beater and a good sound, why not buy vintage acoustic too???? You seem to like vintage leccys. I picked up 2 Yamahas from the 70s for around 100 euros each (one a 12 string) and both beat the tone on any other acoustic i've ever played by a country mile.... Or maybe it's the risk and the inability to compare and play in the shop... |
