Wonder if you (or anyone else) has any more info about this ad i've come across?

Apparently someone is offering a "AW70 LT", says it's one of only 120 made. Backs and sides walnut, cedar top, wooden inlays (?!), carved tuners.

Can't find any info about it...just curious rather than interested, as the asking price is quite hefty :-)

Sibly:

Any idea what year this model is supposed to be? Unfortunately, the AW model numbers have been reused over many years and the specs can be drastically different.

BTW, what are "carved tuners" I can only imagine how expensive those might be. :-)

Hey John,

No date given unfortunately :-(
I wouldve thought if it'd been relatively recent, the net wouldve brought sth up on it though. Carved tuners....no idea! May be a mistranslation on my behalf, or the wrong german word chosen by the seller :-)

Sibly:

Hmmm, a German guitar? Might be a model that only appeared in Europe. Let's hope the Captain has some more info for you?

Are there any photos of this guitar available?

Guys, it sounds like a European "spot production model, but with out a serial number or even a picture, it's a bit hard to state the facts. We had back in 1998 a "spot production AW80 with a solid Engleman spruce top and snow flake inlays and walnut back and sides,& gold Grover tuners, only got 30 of them at the time, didn't appear in any catalogues either. Maybe this could be the same thing but called a AW70 for european market ?

The ad disappeared without a trace... i guess we'll never know :-(

There's strange things popping up in europe all the time though...

Sibly:

The Ibanez distribution network is made of different regional organizations. Europe is a different distributor than US, Aus, UK, etc. They can pick and choose what merchandise they will import and apparently request special configurations.

I suppose someone at the top of the Japanese organization knows has a clear picture of how it works on a worldwide basis, but it certainly is confusing for us collectors and players.

Yeah it's great, throws up endless differences for you US guys in particular! Now here's one for ya.... i think i'm right in thinking there was no such guitar as an A340 acoustic.... well i've seen one advertised and been sent a close-up of the label.... looks as if the V for the vintage series has been stamped upside down! wonder how rare that makes it???????

I have a 1998/9 AW95LG, bought from Manson's in Exeter. It has a solid cedar top and laminated mahogany sides and was built in Korea. All this info was given to me in the shop; there is precious little on the web and what few mentions there are seem to be in a variety of European languages to which I am not privy. Would this, by any chance, be a European spot model too?

I have an A340 acoustic Ibanez. They do exist, but must be kinda scarce. Serial # is 780824 on the neck block inside the body. Made in Japan. Bought it new in 78 or 79 at Pearland Music in Pearland, Texas. Dreadnought size, large rectangular pearloid fret markers with black diagonals (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, & 12; 15 & 17 have no black diagonal) in the ebony fretboard, gold machine heads, arched back. Bound front, back, and neck. 1 11/16" at the nut. The "A" of the model number is a little smudged, but sure looks like it has a crossbar, as in not an upside down V. The back and sides look to be maple, but stained dark. Top looks to be spruce. Mahogany neck. Great action, stays in tune well, and stays in tune all the way up the neck. Unbelievable balanced sound and great sustain. I own several guitars including Gibsons, Taylors, and Martins, but this is the guitar I always reach for first. I just love the neck on this guitar! I've been looking for information on these for a couple of years and can find nothing. I'd like to buy another one for my son if anyone knows where one is for sale. I'll add photos as soon as I figure out how.

Thanks for the info Johns!

If the fretboard is rosewood, it is the darkest closed grain rosewood I have ever seen, and the luthier that dressed the frets a couple of years ago thought it was ebony. BTW, he had never seen one of these and was really impressed with how this guitar plays and sounds. Any idea of how many of these were made and what the current value is? I've been searching the internet for over 2 years looking to buy another one of these and can find nothing.

Congratulations Wolle, this guitar should appreciate in value in years to come, especially being a "spot production model"

Enjoy !

Hey, Wolle... Any pictures of that AW-70 Limited? I have a feeling this is the brother of my AW-75 12-string, of which I've never seen another.

Very nice, Wolle!

Where are you reading the serial numbers from? My 1981 AW-75 (which is listed in the 1979 catalog) has a 6-digit number branded on the neck, but nothing on the label. Also, my label says that it's made in Owari Asahi, but I don't think yours say that.

Anyway, that's great! I wish I could see these in person, Wolle. I've never seen a 3-piece fingerboard like the one on your AW-70 LT. Very cool!

By the way, this is my 1981 AW-75 (this is exactly the same model that you see in the 1979 catalog): AW-75

Hello. Here are two photos. I sold that one, but I made photos first.

This AW60 is build also in Owari Asahi. I know, that the Serials of this Artwoods aren't the same logig like the other. I think there were a lot of wooden materials from TAMA production. Any way. Top instruments, high qualitity, nice memories. The two AW60 I gave away to friends will also be loved and played.

Regards
