Hey everyone,

I'm hoping someone knows about the Ibanez AE400 acoustic electric. I'm considering buying one, but I haven't been able to find any information online regarding quality/construction and playability. Can anyone help?

I'm interested to know what they were made from (solid top and body? or plywood?), how the electronics are, any known deficiencies or problems etc.

The seller says it is from 1970 but the only info that I have seen lists these guitars as being from the early '80s.

Here's a photo:

Rwsteven, here is the catalogue scan with the info you are after from my 1983 catalogue.

Hope this helps you
Captain Ibanez :-)

Thanks Captain Ibanez!

Since the description doesn't say "solid spruce", I assume it's a laminated top, so I think I'll keep looking for a solid top guitar that will be good non-amplified. I do like the look of the AE400 though!

Once again, ICW comes through!

I'm looking for a decent hardshell case for a guitar model I build. I've built only one so far, and don't plan to sell it, but I have a prospective client for another, and I'll need to supply a hardshell case with it.

I own an AE405TV, as is shown in the above photo that Captain Ibanez provided. I used this guitar as a template for the body style of my own "Fingerstyle" model, except I wasn't going to try and make that sharp bend at the cutaway. I did a more rounded cutaway instead. Here's a pic of my guitar:

fingerstyle

It's about four inches deep, and fits easily into my Ibanez 2455NT's case (the 2455NT is a big, hollowbody jazz guitar), but with a lot of slop. The 2455NT is considerably longer than the AE405TV or my guitar. I bought the 405 off eBay and it came with a pretty-well trashed chipboard case, so getting dimensions from its case is no help.

Now, just from looking at photos, it appears to me that the 405TV has the same basic body shape as the Ragtime Specials.

So, what I'm wondering is this -- if you own a Ragtime Special, have you had to buy a new case for it, and if so, what did you buy?

Best,

Michael
