Hi all,
A daunting task, but I need 2 of these style tuners, or pieces of them to put together to put this 670-12 back to 100% original

Any help is greatly appreciated, and I'm open to whatever request you have (buy , trade, etc)

I'll have a look in the box of tricks but I think I have 8 or 10 of that particular tuner as spares for my various 70's 12 strings on which they were fairly common.

Cheers
Russ

Russell...man that would be real sweet...shoot my an email if you got 2 avail. fingers crossed

This 670 is in amazing 9.8 shape, with only blemish being a few pimple size dinks on top...she really needs to be 100%.

She's a beaut'! I'd love to find one of those myself. I'd love a 12 & I've always been a sucker for blonde guitars with maple fretboards.

Mind sharing how long you've had it & how much you paid for it?

Thx bro...just got her recently...Price was maybe a little high at $400, considering 2 incorrect tuners, but she is almost dead mint...I was hoping I could get 2 of them pretty easily here. If i can score 2 tuners here, not so bad a deal...if I can't, then maybe $400 is a bit too much (ya think? Don't know much about 12 string Ibanez prices)...but its hard to get one in this kinda shape, so I don't feel too bad about the tuners...and the craftsmanship is awesome as always...the sound needs a bit of tweaking, and as for action, she needs a pro setup, real stiff to me. Not very versed in 12 strings, or their nuances\ secret tweaks. Maybe a bone saddle, better bridge pins might help. Not sure also to how well these tuners will work...these style vintage tuners don't appear to be that high a quality.

Russell...any luck yet? Thx.

I think you did OK on the price... but I'm a sucker for blondes... especially when the fretboard is also maple.

Any 12 string is going to feel "stiffer" than any 6 string, but if the action feels too high, it should probably be professionally corrected.

You're right... those tuners are crap... but 10/12 original. I'd be very tempted to switch out the whole lot for a set of Mini Grovers or Schallers or whatever you might find that match the hole patterns of the originals, if possible.

But, of course, it really depends on whether you want an accurate collectable, to eventually turn over or a great player, to keep.

dido...I have been toying with that very idea... swapping tuners out with top of the line tuners, only if I can't get 2 more. I could always put them back on.

The whole Maple Ibanez acoustic line is gorgeous...I love thumbing trough those on-line catalogs of the 70's Acoustics.

Well Jim, I found one!

My 671/12 just arrived today. She's got a few more dings than yours & the nut is shot, but for $225 + $25 shipping, from Charlotte, I'm happy. Sounds sweeeeeeet!

But damn! Those old tuners are even worse than I remembered!

Sooooooo, give me a little time with her (the nut & new strings come first) & some research to find what I want to replace them with and I MIGHT have all 12 of 'em for ya, down the road. I promise not to leave ya hangin' too long.

John

Yo... JIM!!!

I've got my new Grover locking minis installed (I LOVE 'em... they look like JEWELRY). The new TusQ nut & saddle still need some tweeks but...

Long story short... I'll be only too happy to get you the 2 best, or the whole lot, for whatever it takes to get 'em to ya.

BUT... if you go for the whole lot... you must pledge to share the rest with any other ICW members in similar need!

i.e... if I EVER see 'em on eBay, you WILL be TRASHED!!!

John,

Your unselfish contribution to resurrecting that ole gal (671/12) is admirable, its comforting to see that not everyone needs to get rich on hawking vintage parts to the serious collector-your OK in my book ! Let the good "Guitar Collectors Karma" shine upon you ! ....

Thanks guys. I just hope that karma hangs around a little while. I've gotten myself a 2681 that's gonna need some parts... and LOTS of advise, but I'll go into more detail on the vintage list.

JIM... are you out there!

$#!+... I hadn't noticed before, but the top left one is crooked.

Oh well... no one else will notice, with all those extra holes to draw their attention.

At least she tunes up MUCH more easily now... and hangs on to a tuning for a damned good while.

CRAP! The lower right one is a little off too.

Well... MY reputation as an amateur luthier is in the toilet.
